Knowing Yourself and Advocating
More Great Tools
Everybody thinks differently, so why should we expect our students to fit into specific molds? In this unit we will explore neurodiversity as the different ways in which people think and neurodivergence as a part of life. We will use listening practice to question what is "normal" and speaking activities for our students to be able to discuss neurodiversity safely and comfortably. Finally we will use pronunciation practice to allow our English language learning students to be able to advocate for themselves and others who may be neurodivergent.
In this lesson we will use listening as a means to learn about what neurodiversity is and to question the concept of normality.
In this lesson we will use speaking to learn the differences between labels, diagnoses, and name-calling so that students may be able to talk about neurodiversity safely and comfortably.
In this lesson we will use pronunciation for students to further learn about themselves and others so that they may be able to advocate for themselves and others.
