Overview of Unit Plan

This unit explores the topic of Girls' Education while targeting oral skills.  Students will learn about the challenges that many girls face around the world.   Through resources like Malala.org articles and podcasts, students will learn about specific countries' challenges in girls' education.  Students will also get a chance to practice critical thinking, creativity, group collaboration, and empathy as they brainstorm possible solutions to the roadblocks to girls' education. 

Listening

Listening is targeted in this unit through the incorporation of videos, Podcasts, and teacher talk in each lesson.  Students will be exposed to a variety of English dialects and will practice listening for gist and for detail.

Speaking

Speaking practice is embedded in every lesson of this unit through group work, class discussions, games, and more.  Students will practice speaking with fluency and learn about the use of discourse markers.

Pronunciation 

Pronunciation is targeted in lesson 3 of this unit when students learn about intonation and how to emphasize certain words in their spoken English.  Also, they'll utilize intonation in their final project videos.
