Title of Lesson: What is Gender Equality? (Listening)
Listening Skills and Strategies in focus: Comprehension & Practice
Learner Level: B2 & C1
Length of Lesson: 90 minutes
Materials Needed:
Warm up: White board or large poster paper, markers/dry-erase markers
Pre-listening: Pre-cut out paper with vocabulary terms and definitions
While listening: Worksheet
Post- listening: Paper, pencils
Wrap up: Exit ticket sheets
Learning Objectives/ Students will be able to:
(1) Identify examples of gender inequality.
(2) Match vocabulary terms to the correct definitions.
(3) Listen to a video in English.
(4) Relate learning to personal experience.
(5) Write about implications of gender inequality.
Warm-Up
Activity: Definition Brainstorm
Time: 10-15 minutes
Materials: White board or large poster paper, markers/dry-erase markers
Steps & Teacher Directions:
Teacher will write “Gender inequality” on the board
Students will then come up to the board and write their own definition of what they think gender inequality is or looks like on the board
Students will then vote on the definition they think most fits the prompt
The teacher will then will circle the answer everyone votes for

(1) Identify examples of gender inequality.
Pre-Listening
Activity: Term Matching
Time: 25-30 minutes
Materials: Pre-cut out paper with vocabulary terms and definitions
Steps & Teacher Directions:
Before class teacher should print and cut out the vocabulary words and definitions from provide paper (Appendix A)
Put students into groups of 2 or 3
Have students match the vocabulary term to the correct definition
Then have students write the correct answers on the board/ or call on groups one on one to give their answers

(2) Match vocabulary terms to the correct definitions.
While-Listening
Activity: Watch video and Answer Questions
Time: 15-20 minutes
Materials: Worksheet

Steps & Teacher Directions:
Hand students a worksheet with questions from the video on it (Appendix C)
Play the video
Wait for the question and answer to play, then pause video and give students 2 minutes to answer each question

(3) Listen to a video in English.
(5) Write about implications of gender inequality.
Post-Listening
Activity: Turn and Draw
Time: 10-15 minutes
Materials: Paper and pencils
Steps & Teacher Directions:
Students will be put into groups of two
Each student will have two pieces of paper
Student #1 will be given a vocabulary term from the pre-listening activity and they will have to draw it on their paper (they will have two minutes to draw)
Then student #2 will write down what term they think student #1 drew (they will have two minutes to guess)
After the first round students will switch roles and do the activity again

Wrap-Up
Activity: Exit Ticket
Time: 10-15 minutes
Materials: Exit ticket sheets
Steps & Teacher Directions:
Students will be given a paper with the following questions (Appendix D):
What is something you knew about gender equality from before today's lesson?
What is something you learned?
Do you think gender in-equality is a problem in your society/country? Why or why not?
Students will be given time to independently answer the questions then they will turn in their paper before they leave class

(4) Relate learning to personal experience.
(5) Write about implications of gender inequality.
