Warm-Up
Activity: Jazz Chant
Time: 5 minutes
Materials: White board or projector
Steps & Teacher Directions:
Write or project Jazz Chant on the board (Appendix A)
Read the Jazz Chant with students 3 or 4 times
Learning Objective(s) Targeted:
(1) Read English in groups
(2) Speak English out loud
Presentation
Activity: News report presentations
Time: 20-30 minutes
Materials: N/A
Steps & Teacher Directions:
Have students present their “News Report” videos in class
While students are playing their videos, have classmates take notes on two presentations of their choice
Students will turn in these notes at the end of class

Practice
Activity: United nation gender goals
Time: 20-30 minutes
Materials: Worksheet
Steps & Teacher Directions:
Put students into groups of 2 or 3
Have students take turns reading the Gender goals (Appendix B) on a printed sheet
Walk around and listen while students are reading
Once students have read through the goals have them answer discussion questions (Appendix C)
When all groups are done, have them share to the class what they talked about.

Assessment
Activity: Voice typing activity
Time: 15-25 minutes
Materials: Electronic device for every student (phone/laptop)
Steps & Teacher Directions:
Make sure each student has an electronic device (phone/laptop)
Have students open a blank google document
Have students click on “tools” at the top of the page, then have them click on “voice typing”
Students will read each of the Gender goals (Appendix B) while the voice tool writes out what they are saying
Once students are done reading have them check sentences for errors in pronunciation
Once they find all of the errors have them practice those words on their own using the voice tool

Wrap-Up
Activity: Exit Ticket
Time: 5 minutes
Materials: Exit ticket sheets
Steps & Teacher Directions:
Give students a short questionnaire to fill out (Appendix D)
Have them turn it in before they leave class

Gender is just a label, it doesn't define our worth,
We all deserve respect, no matter our gender or birth.
Equal opportunities, that's what we all need,
To break the chains of inequality, we must all take heed.
Appendix B
United Nations Gender Goals
End all forms of discrimination against all women and girls everywhere
Eliminate all forms of violence against all women and girls in the public and private spheres, including trafficking and sexual and other types of exploitation
Eliminate all harmful practices, such as child, early and forced marriage and female genital mutilation
Recognize and value unpaid care and domestic work through the provision of public services, infrastructure and social protection policies and the promotion of shared responsibility within the household and the family as nationally appropriate
Ensure women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision making in political, economic and public life
Ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights as agreed in accordance with the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development and the Beijing Platform for Action and the outcome documents of their review conferences
Undertake reforms to give women equal rights to economic resources, as well as access to ownership and control over land and other forms of property, financial services, inheritance and natural resources, in accordance with national laws
