Action: How Can We Help?
Overview
The purpose of lesson 3 demonstrates ways to prevent deforestation. This varies from spreading awareness, being politically active, and more. The first lesson requires students to interview and be interviewed regarding tree related crimes. After the debate, students will view a pre-made Adobe spark video with the intention of gathering ideas for their own Adobe spark video. This segues into the last lesson, where students research deforestation and create an Adobe spark video covering what they have learned so far.

Warm-up Activity
Show Me the Tree Facts:
Time: 5 minutes
Learning Objectives Targeted: 1
Basic Summary: Students were given homework the previous lesson to research a deforestation topic of their choice. For the warm-up, students will share the forest they researched, the website they used, and something they found interesting in the article.
Activity 1
On the Hot Stump:
Time: 35 minutes
Learning Objectives Targeted: 1, 2
Basic Summary: In a role-playing scenario, two students will be suspected by the rest of the class as people who committed an act of deforestation. By the end of the interrogation, the students decide if the two suspects are guilty or not.
Activity 2
Adobe Spark

For the first watch of the video, students will listen for gist. During the second watch, students will be filling out a storyboard worksheet for the video. (The worksheet will be used to help them create their own video in the next activity.) After both watches, students are given 10 minutes to discuss the video and compare storyboards.
Activity 3
Video Leaflet
Time: 25 minutes
Learning Objectives Targeted: 5
Basic Summary: Students will be making an Adobe spark video similar to the one they just viewed in activity 2. Students separate from the class into their groups will be given 15 minutes to create an Adobe spark video. Students will use the storyboard worksheets they filled out in the previous activity for help, in addition to the teacher walking around to assist. Those who finish their videos and wish to showcase them will be given the opportunity to do so at the end of the 15 minutes.
Wrap-up Activity
Mock Ballot
Time: 5 minutes
