Vilo Elapata

Assistant Head of English

MA (hons) Educational Leadership

BA (hons) English Literature , The University of Warwick

QTS

Vilo is entering her 16th year in the profession, and is hugely excited about joining the English Department at BIS HCMC in her role as Assistant Head of English and KS3 Coordinator.

She began her teaching career via the Teach First programme in the UK, where she also completed her Masters in Educational Leadership, conducting action research into Gifted and Talented provision, as the school’s Aim Higher coordinator. In London, she was a Leader of Learning, planning and delivering Initial Teacher Training for new teachers. Since then, she has enjoyed being a pastoral leader, as a Head of Year 8, 9 and 10 in the sphere of international education, starting in  bright and colourful Thailand and then moving to the beautiful, leafy setting of southern China, where she has been Head of English for 3 years.

Vilo loves her job, which aims to promote empathy, kindness and a love of the written and spoken word, as well as the confidence, competence and eloquence of her learners.

Vilo has relished the opportunity to travel through South East Asia and China, and, outside of school, she enjoys marveling at architecture, wandering art galleries, pounding the pavements whilst training for a half-marathon – or simply enjoying a good book in a local café!
