Laurie lives in Vietnam with his wife and two sons and joined BIS in August 2022. He has taught English in both grammar and comprehensive schools in the UK where he held the position of EAL coordinator and gained experience as a GCSE examiner.

Internationally, Laurie worked for almost a decade in Japan, and, more recently, in an IB school in Dubai where he taught the Theory of Knowledge, as well as English.

After completing a masters in which he investigated a teaching strategy to improve students’ written grammatical proficiency, Laurie then broadened his skillset further, becoming a qualified SEN coordinator and an assessor of examination arrangements.

Writing is one of his passions and Laurie enjoys collecting our students’ creative writing and having it printed every year as an anthology. He believes it is important to provide young people with opportunities to get their writing printed and published.
