What Does Genesis 1:31 TRULY Mean?
***What Does Genesis 1:31 TRULY mean?
Here is Genesis 1:31 from the KJV. “And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.”
Does Genesis 1:31 PROVE that Genesis 1:2 through Genesis 1:31 is the ORIGINAL creation of the heavens and the earth?
In other words, could God have RESTORED the earth and all that God did while RESTORING the earth was GOOD in Genesis 1:31.
To say this another way, does Genesis 1:31 PROVE beyond any shadow of a doubt that it is IMPOSSIBLE for Genesis 1:2-31 to be an account of God RESTORING the earth to create the first human being, Adam?
For you see, the angels of God were created BEFORE Adam was created in Genesis 1:26,27.
And, according to Psalm 8:1-6, some of the angels turned against God to become God’s ENEMIES, which is the very REASON for why God MADE man and the Son of Man.
Please read the Verse Study that I have on that passage of Scripture called Psalm 8:5 Jesus was Made LOWER Than the Elohim!
But for now, let us read this Verse Study on Genesis 1:31 to learn its TRUE SOUND Biblical meaning in the LIGHT of the WHOLE word of Almighty God.

The TRUE Meaning Genesis 1:1-31 in the LIGHT of the Whole Word of God!
Let us begin this Verse Study by reading Genesis 1:31 without any comments within that verse.
In other words, try to lay aside any preconceived understanding that you already have formed as to the meaning of Genesis 1:31.
And after reading this verse we will take a look at a few points that will help us learn the true meaning of the ACCOUNT in Genesis 1:2-31.
#1. Is this account in Genesis 1:2-31 a CREATION account of the ORIGINAL earth having never existed before Genesis 1:2, as the YOUNG Earth Creation (YEC) Christians dogmatically demand?
#2. Is this account in Genesis 1:2-31 a RESTORATION account of God RESTORING the earth that BECAME without form and void AFTER Genesis 1:1?
#3. Have the translators of the Bible translated every single word in the entire Bible without having ANY errors made in their translations?
#4. Is it WRONG for a Christian to use OTHER meanings of the Hebrew and Greek words when trying to get the already “translated” verses to AGREE and NOT contradict one another, so long as those other meanings do NOT contradict other verses of Scripture?
Genesis 1:31.
“And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.”
The first thing that I want to point out is the phrase “VERY good”.
In Genesis 1:4, 1:10, 1:12, 1:18, 1:21, 1:25, God saw what He did as being GOOD.
But in Genesis 1:31, God saw that everything that He “‛âśâh” , which is TRANSLATED and MADE, was VERY GOOD.
So then, the question arises, “Does verse 31 mean that everything God did on the SIXTH day was VERY good?”
Or does God intend us to understand that everything God did was EVERY GOOD.
For you see, God does NOT say that ANYTHING was good on the SECOND DAY.
Let us go through the six days so that you can see this for yourself.
On the first day God saw that the light was GOOD.
On the second day, there is nothing said as being GOOD.
And on the THIRD day, God says two things that He saw as being GOOD.
First, God saw the “gathering together of the WATERS” which He called the Seas, so that dry ground could appear in Genesis 1:9,10 as being GOOD.
Then the second thing that God saw being GOOD was the plants bringing forth after their kind in Genesis 1:11,12.
And that ended the third day.
Then in Genesis 1:18, we see that God saw the DIVIDING of the LIGHT from the DARKNESS as being GOOD.
In other words, God saw that having TWO lights, a GREAT LIGHT and a lesser light to RULE over the DAY and the NIGHT for the purpose of DIVIDING the LIGHT from the DARKNESS was GOOD.
And that was the end of the fourth day.
And in Genesis 1:21, as it is TRANSLATED in the King James Version, God saw that His CREATING the whales, and also every living creature bringing forth after their kind as being GOOD.
However, a more correct translation or another POSSIBLE meaning of Genesis 1:21 is as follows.
Here is a more correct translation of Genesis 1:21.
“And God CUT DOWN that INSOLENT Dragon, and every living creature that SWARMS, in ORDER THAT the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was GOOD.”
When we understand that God has an ENEMY and that God is in the process of JUDGING His enemy by His good and faithful WITNESSES, then we can see that God is LOVE.
And the only reason for God being a CONSUMING FIRE is to destroy evil once and for all time.
So then, the OLD Earth Christians read all of Genesis chapter 1 with this UNDERSTANDING that God is RESTORING the earth.
For you see, we know and understand that the very reason for WHY God created MAN and the Son of MAN was for Him to JUDGE the angels by the MAN that He ORDAINED and raised from the DEAD to be His first faithful and truthful WITNESS, the BEGINNING of the creation of God, according to Acts 17:29-31, Revelation 1:5, Revelation 3:14, and Colossians 1:18-21.
Now, let us take a CLOSER look at the meaning of the Hebrew word “translated” as “MADE”.
Here is how the concordance in E-Sword defines the Hebrew word “‛âśâh”.
The emphasis is mine to show other possible meanings other than “made”.
H6213
עָשָׂה
‛âśâh
aw-saw'
A primitive root; to do or make, in the broadest sense and widest application: - accomplish, advance, appoint, apt, be at, become, bear, bestow, bring forth, bruise, be busy, X certainly, have the charge of, commit, deal (with), deck, + displease, do, (ready) dress (-ed), (put in) execute (-ion), exercise, fashion, + feast, [fight-] ing man, + finish, fit, fly, follow, fulfil, furnish, gather, get, go about, govern, grant, great, + hinder, hold ([a feast]), X indeed, + be industrious, + journey, keep, labour, maintain, make, be meet, observe, be occupied, offer, + officer, pare, bring (come) to pass, perform, practise, prepare, procure, provide, put, requite, X sacrifice, serve, set, shew, X sin, spend, X surely, take, X thoroughly, trim, X very, + vex, be [warr-] ior, work (-man), yield, use.
Total KJV occurrences: 2633.
Now, I believe that Genesis 1:3-5 is a PROPHECY of God APPOINTING LIGHT to come to pass in the world.
In Acts 17:29-31, we learn that God has APPOINTED as DAY, or God MADE a DAY, or God SET a DAY in which He will JUDGE the world by the MAN that He ORDAINED and raised from the DEAD.
And the English word “ordained” means to APPOINT. So then, God brought to pass by PERFORMING His word of PROPHECY in Genesis 1:3-5 to BRING forth His HUMAN Son, Jesus, into the world to be the LIGHT of the world.
And now, we are the LIGHT of the world as we WALK in the LIGHT even as Jesus is in the LIGHT.
For you see, according to 1 John 1:5, God is LIGHT and in Him there is no DARKNESS at all.
So then, abiding in God to be ONE in unity with God is LIGHT.
Thus, NOT remaining in unity with Almighty God is walking in DARKNESS.
In other words, the DARKNESS in Genesis 1:2 does not dogmatically mean PHYSICAL darkness where there is absolutely no PHYSICAL light.
But rather, there was no light of walking in the LIGHT of doing things God’s WAY.
With that being said, the OLD earth understanding of Genesis 1:3-5 is SPIRITUAL LIGHT and not dogmatically demanding that it must, without fail, can only be PHYSICAL light.
And most OLD earth Christians do NOT dogmatically demand that it is impossible for Genesis 1:3-5 to mean BOTH spiritual light and physical light.
For you see, we believe that catastrophic events like volcano eruptions all over the earth could cause literal darkness of physical light to be blocked from getting through the atmosphere of the earth.
Now, please know and understand that it was on the FIRST DAY that God SPOKE light to be and there was light.
In other words, Genesis 1:1 is NOT on the FIRST DAY.
But rather, the only thing God did on the first day was to say. Let there BE LIGHT.
For you see, the immediate text itself does NOT specifically say that God MADE the light. And neither does it say that God CREATED the light.
But rather, God simply said, Let there BE LIGHT and there was light. And God saw the Aleph Tav light was good.
Please read the study called U-2. What Does the Aleph Tav MEAN?
But for now, I want you to notice what ALSO happened on the FIRST DAY after God PROPHESIED for there to be LIGHT.
God DIVIDED the LIGHT from the DARKNESS. He then called the light DAY and the darkness NIGHT.
Now, the Holy Spirit brought to my remembrance 1 Thessalonians 5:5, which says that we are the children of the DAY and NOT of the children of the NIGHT.
1 Thessalonians 5:5.
“You are all the children of LIGHT, and the children of the DAY: we are NOT of the NIGHT, nor of DARKNESS.”
So again, to OLD Earth Christians, Genesis 1:3-5 is speaking primarily of SPIRITUAL light and God SEPARATING the LIGHT from the DARKNESS, the GOOD from the EVIL.
And God is still in the process of separating the good from the evil in order to harvest the children of the LIGHT and DESTROY the children of DARKNESS in the lake of fire, which was originally made or PREPARED for only Satan and his angels, according to Matthew 25:41.
Now, the word “MADE” is found five times in Genesis chapter one in the KJV, once in Genesis 1:7, twice in Genesis 1:16, once in Genesis 1:25, and once in Genesis 1:31, which we have already seen could be translated as APPOINTED.
But, in truth, one of those times in Genesis 1:16, and he made the stars, the words “he made” were added by the translators.
However, the Hebrew word “‛âśâh” is also translated as “MAKE” in Genesis 1:26, when God said to the Elohim, Let us MAKE man in OUR image.
And then in Genesis 1:27, we see that God ALONE and by Himself CREATED man in HIS OWN image.
Please read the study called Book 7 Chapter 3 Genesis 1:26 Does NOT Mean Three Persons in One Elohim!
Now, man is both CREATED and MADE, according to Genesis 5:1, and Genesis 6:6,7.
So, to me, God is saying to the fallen Elohim, “Let us MAKE man in OUR image, as in, you fallen angels have my permission to TEMPT man to GET him to SIN in your image.”
And the fallen of mankind, who remain in DARKNESS, will be CONFORMED or made in your image.
And I will CONFORM or make man in MY OWN image by getting man to repent and ask Me for forgiveness of their sins.
Therefore, the words “MADE” and “MAKE” in Genesis chapter one do NOT dogmatically mean to CREATE and to be CREATED.
With that being said, let us take a closer look at Genesis 1:7 where God “MADE” the firmament in order to DIVIDE or to SEPARATE the WATERS.
Genesis 1:6-8.
“And God said, Let there BE a firmament in the midst of the waters, (Or let there be a firmament BETWEEN the WATERS) and let it divide the waters from the waters.
Genesis 1:7. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
Genesis 1:8. And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.”
Now, if God CREATED the Heavens in Genesis 1:1, then the Hebrew word “‛âśâh” in Genesis 1:7 should NOT have been TRANSLATED as “made” the firmament, which is called Heaven in verse 8.
But rather, the Hebrew word “‛âśâh” would be more correctly translated in Genesis 1:7 as God APPOINTED the firmament as a BOUNDARY between the FALLEN angels BELOW the firmament and the good angels ABOVE the firmament.
And God did that to make PEACE between the angels, so that God can put an END to the WAR in Heaven.

Job 38:6 The TRUE Meaning of FOUNDATION of the Earth!
Q-5. The TRUE Meaning of the FOUNDATION of the World!
In conclusion, the phrase “and God saw that everything he made, and BEHOLD, VERY GOOD” does NOT PROVE that the earth is only 6,000 years old as the YEC Christians dogmatically demand.
Also, please notice that the English words “it was” are NOT in the original Hebrew text.
So, when I read Genesis 1:31, I see that it is saying that God saw prophetically into the future that everything He has made, created, and is doing SHALL be VERY GOOD.
And thus, God is saying or telling us to BEHOLD, watch and SEE that everything He makes and does is VERY GOOD.
An example of HOW the word “BEHOLD”, is used and UNDERSTOOD in the Bible, is Matthew 6:26-28.
This is where Jesus tells us to BEHOLD, as in, to OBSERVE the fowls of the air and CONSIDER the lilies and how they do not have to sow seed, reap, toil or spin to live.
So again, Genesis 1:31 does NOT prove that the earth and the heavens are ONLY 6,000 years old.
Therefore, do NOT be DECEIVED by the false teaching of the YEC Christians.
In the next Verse Study in this series of studies showing the ERRORS of interpretation made by the YEC Christians, I will cover Genesis 2:1-3. The TRUE Sound Biblical Meaning of the SEVENTH Day!
And in that Verse Study, I will show WHY the six phrases, “even and morning”, do NOT dogmatically mean LITERAL 24 hour days in Genesis 1:5-31.
Thanks for reading, and may God bless you richly as you continue to seek the TRUTH of the WHOLE word of Almighty God.
And to me, the truth concerning who Jesus TRULY is, according to the Bible ITSELF, is the Biblical Unitarian view of Jesus.
Once Christians, Jews, Muslims, and even atheists understand the REASON that Yahweh CREATED the Son of MAN, Jesus, was to have DOMINION over the work of Yahweh’s hands.
And after you understand that the REASON that Yahweh did that is to STILL His ENEMIES, Satan and the fallen angels.
Then you can understand that God made His human Son to become “a” Lord, “a” King, and “a” God, under and subject to his God and Father in order to JUDGE Satan and the fallen angels.
