John 18:6 What Does This Verse TRULY Mean?
What does John 18:6 TRULY Mean?
***What Does John 18:6 TRULY mean?
Here is John 18:6 from the KJV. “As soon then, as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.”
Does John 18:6 PROVE that Jesus is Almighty God Himself in the flesh as Trinitarian Christians claim?
No, absolutely not! The context clearly teaches us that they were asking Jesus if he was Jesus of Nazareth, and Jesus simply answered, I am he.
In other words, Jesus was saying, yes, I am he, Jesus of Nazareth, whom you seek to crucify.
The anointing and presence of the Father’s Holy Spirit was upon Jesus, after spending hours in agonizing prayer to his God and Father.
And if you have ever been close or next to someone filled with the anointing of the Holy Spirit, then you know and understand that people fall down under the power of the Holy Spirit that is flowing out of them.
The God of Jesus was well pleased with His Son Jesus who had just surrendered his WILL to suffer and die on the cross for the sin of the world.
Also, God watches over His spoken word of prophecy to make sure it comes to pass.
Thus, Almighty God the Father could have sent some of His angels, which made sure that the mob did not kill Jesus before the cross.

God Protected His Lamb from Being Killed Before the Time!
Is Jesus saying in John 18:6 that he is the great I AM that I AM in Exodus 3:14 as some Christians claim?
For you see, most Trinitarian Christians will argue that Jesus is saying that he is Yahweh Himself in John 18:6.
And their argument is that the very moment Jesus said “I AM”, those who sought to crucify him fell backward on the ground.
And only Almighty God Himself can make people fall backward without touching them.
So then, the line of reasoning made by Trinitarian Christians is that the ones seeking to take Jesus by FORCE to have him crucified all fell backwards BECAUSE they HEARD Jesus say “I AM”.
Therefore, Trinitarian Christians conclude that Jesus had to be saying that he is Almighty God Himself in the flesh as being the ONLY reason for why those men fell backward.
But what about the account of the gospel in Matthew 26:45-56?
What about when Jesus said to Peter to put away his sword and he said to Peter the following words.
Do you not think that I can pray to the Father and He will send 12 legions of angels this very second to deliver me?
Notice in verse 45 that Jesus called those who sought to have him crucified, as being SINNERS.
Notice that Judas Iscariot led those who wanted to have Jesus crucified to Jesus. And then Judas betrayed Jesus with a kiss.
That would have been the TIME that all those sinners FELL backward.
So then, Jesus simply THINKING about praying to his God and Father resulted in Almighty God the Father sending His angels to cause those men to fall backward the very moment that His Son VOLUNTARILY yielded himself to be taken to be crucified.
Keep in mind that this was an angry “mob” who wanted to kill Jesus.
So, it could very well be that God sent His angels to make sure the mob only arrested Jesus, and not prematurely killed His Lamb, before the cross.
In other words, when the men seeking to have Jesus crucified, Jesus already knew that they were coming.
Thus, Jesus did not resist being arrested by the angry mob.
Jesus asked them, WHO do you seek? And they answered, Jesus of Nazareth.
And Jesus voluntarily answered them and said, I am he, INTENDING his words to simply mean, I am Jesus of Nazareth, the one you seek. So let these other ones go free.
So then, the REAL truth that we, as Christians, should be seeking in the account of John 18:6 is that Almighty God hates VIOLENCE and taking things by FORCE using weapons.
And that is WHY Almighty God the Father caused those sinners to fall backwards the very moment that His human Son, Jesus, “voluntarily” yielded up his own life to be crucified for the sins of the world.
Again, when Jesus said the words “I am he”, Jesus was simply answering the question, WHO do you seek?
And the sinners said, Jesus of Nazareth. And Jesus answered and said, “I am he.”
But the translators in some translations chose to put the pronoun “he” in italics to show that the pronoun “he” is not actually in the original Greek text.
So you should be asking WHY the translators chose to put the pronoun “he” in italics in this particular verse of Scripture, while NOT putting the pronoun “he” in italics in other verses of Scripture like Acts 10:21 and Revelation 2:23?
And also ask WHY many more verses of Scripture did NOT have the pronoun “he” in italics in EARLIER editions, but CHANGED the pronoun “he” to now be in italics in the later editions of the same translations.
As the old saying goes, “something fishy is going on here”.
Can you not see that the god of this present world has an AGENDA to deceive the whole world if he can?
Satan has used men in power throughout the history of the church to influence the leaders in the church to promote his AGENDA to DECEIVE.
There are several places in the “translations” of the Bible that have ERRORS in translation.
And even Trinitarian Bible scholars know about these corrupted verses of Scripture or variances in the Greek text.
And SOME of those errors seem to have been deliberate in order to try to support the man-made doctrine of the Trinity.
So then, if you are a Christian who sincerely believes that Jesus is Almighty God Himself in the flesh, in that, Almighty God Himself BECAME His own Son, then ask yourself the following question.
“Now, in all honesty, would you interpret the words of Peter saying, “EGO EIMI”, as Peter INTENDING his words to mean that Peter was saying that he himself is the great I AM THAT I AM in Exodus 3:14?”
NO! Absolutely not! And that is because Peter was simply answering the question of who are you seeking?
Act 10:21.
“Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he (Or behold EGO EIMI) whom you seek: what is the cause wherefore have you come?”
Again, the SAME Greek words “ego eimi” are used in John 18:6 as they are used in Acts 10:21.
But yet the translators did NOT put the pronoun “he” in italics, because it is blatantly obvious that Cornelius was seeking Peter.
And thus, Peter simply said I am he. And that is EXACTLY what Jesus INTENDED his words to mean as well. I am he, Jesus of Narareth whom you seek.
Why would the Apostle John INTEND his words that he recorded Jesus in John 8:24, John 8:58, and John 18:6 saying, “I am he” to mean that Jesus said he is Almighty God Himself.
For you see, that would mean that the Apostle John CONTRADICTED himself in John 20:38,39.
John 20:30,31.
“And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
Verse 31. But these are written, THAT you might BELIEVE that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you might have life through his name.”
Or the very reason for why John wrote the Gospel of John is so THAT we would BELIEVE that Jesus is the Messiah, the SON OF God and NOT that Jesus is Almighty God Himself who BECAME His own Son.
Thanks for reading, and may God bless you richly as you continue to seek the TRUTH of the WHOLE word of Almighty God.
And to me, the truth concerning who Jesus TRULY is, according to the Bible ITSELF, is the Biblical Unitarian view of Jesus.
Once Christians, Jews, Muslims, and even atheists understand the REASON that Yahweh CREATED the Son of MAN, Jesus, was to have DOMINION over the work of Yahweh’s hands.
And after you understand that the REASON that Yahweh did that is to STILL His ENEMIES, Satan and the fallen angels.
Then you can understand that God made His human Son to become “a” Lord, “a” King, and “a” God, under and subject to his God and Father in order to JUDGE Satan and the fallen angels.
