The 10 Best Scriptures that PROVE an OLD Earth!
The Bible ITSELF Clearly Teaches a Previous AGE!
***What Does Job 8:8 TRULY mean?
Here is Job 8:8 from the KJV. “For enquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers:”
According to Deuteronomy 4:32, God wants us to inquire or ask Him about the FORMER AGE of the earth BEFORE God created Adam and Eve around 6,000 years ago.
In this study, I briefly explain the 10 BEST Scriptures that absolutely PROVE a PREVIOUS AGE of the earth before God created Adam.
I then give a list at the end of this study with many more Scriptures with links to other translations that absolutely PROVE that the earth and the universe is FAR OLDER than just 6,000 years old as the Young Earth Creationist Christians dogmatically insist.
And by “far older” I mean that the earth is BILLIONS of years old!
In truth, the Orthodox Church TRADITION has NOT taught us the TRUE SOUND Biblical meaning of the FOUNDATION of the earth.

The ANCIENT WAR in Heaven Between the Angels!
Now, it must be INTERPRETED that God created the entire universe just 6,000 years ago in 144 HOURS.
However, the PREVIOUS AGE of the earth does NOT need to be “INTERPRETED”.
There are no less than these 10 best SCRIPTURES that absolutely PROVE an OLD earth and a PREVIOUS AGE of the earth.
In other words, there are MANY MORE passages of Scripture in the Bible that proves that the earth is ANCIENT in age, than just 10 verses of Scripture.
So, I highly suggest that you read the more in-depth studies on ALL of these verses so that you can clearly see how they all tie together to reveal the TRUE Jesus and WHY God chose us to JUDGE the world and the angels.

With that being said, let me start by saying that most Christians know full well that there are no less than three different ages that are clearly seen and understood from the Scriptures.
#1. There is this PRESENT AGE from Adam to the return of Jesus, according to Luke 18:29-30, Galatians 1:4, 2 Timothy 4:10, and Titus 2:12.
#2. There is the AGE to come, according to Luke 18:29-30, Matthew 12:32, Mark 10:30, Hebrews 2:5, and Hebrews 6:5.
And that AGE during the world to come will last for 1000 years.
Also, that next AGE, which is called the world to come, is also known as the Millennial reign of Jesus, the Day of the Lord, the Sabbath of Yahweh, the TRUE Seventh Day of Yahweh, and the Lord’s Day where Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath of Yahweh resting in Jesus to be a faithful King over the earth to end war and violence.
#3. There is also an AGE and or the ages of eternity after the 1000-year reign of Jesus when God creates the NEW Heavens and the NEW earth.
We can see this AGE of eternity of righteousness in Ephesians 2:6-7, Ephesians 3:21, Revelation 21:1, Isaiah 65:17-19, and Isaiah 66:22.
But not all Christians know and understand that there were no less than two AGES before God created the first man Adam some 6,000 years ago.
So then, for Scripture evidence number one, let us begin this study in God’s word by reading Job 8:8, which states as a FACT that there is a FORMER AGE before God created Adam, and we are to INQUIRE or ask God about that AGE.
Scripture #1 that proves a PREVIOUS AGE!
Job 8:8.
“For INQUIRE, I pray you, of the FORMER AGE, (Or I implore you to ASK Almighty God about the PREVIOUS AGE) and prepare yourself to the search of their fathers:”
In Scripture number two, we again see Almighty God wanting us to ASK Him about the time BEFORE man was created.
And ALSO ask Him about the WAR between the angels.
Scripture #2 that proves a PREVIOUS AGE!
Please read Deuteronomy 4:32 from the KJV first.
“For ASK now of the DAYS that are PAST, which were BEFORE you, since the day that God created man upon the earth, (In other words, Yahweh wants us to ASK Him about the previous AGE that existed BEFORE God created man upon the earth) and ASK (Or ALSO ASK God about) from the one side of heaven unto the other, whether there has been any such thing as this great thing is, or have been heard like it?”
Now, the second question is a little unclear in the King James Version until you look up the meanings of the Hebrew words.
So then, after looking up the meanings of all of the Hebrew words in the last part of this verse of Scripture, here is what we are to ASK God.
Paraphrased version of Deuteronomy 4:32 b.
“...And also ASK about ONE side of heaven being AGAINST the OTHER SIDE of heaven. Ask if whether or not there has been such a thing as this, such an INSOLENT thing as this, or have you heard anything like it?”
So then, have you heard in your church denomination about this INSOLENT WAR in heaven between the Elohim that has caused Yahweh, the Creator to enter into JUDGMENT of these ANCIENT people that the Bible calls the angels?
Well, if not, then keep reading to learn MORE about this ANCIENT war that began around 12,000 to 15,000 years ago.
In Scripture number three, we learn that the very reason for WHY God created man and the Son of MAN was BECAUSE of His ENEMIES.
Scripture #3 that proves a PREVIOUS AGE!
Psalm 8:1-6.
“To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm of David. O LORD our Lord, (Or more correctly translated in the LITERAL translation from the Textus Receptus, Yahweh Lords of us.
Also, the LITERAL translation of Psalm 8:1 says, Yahweh our Lords in the PLURAL, as in, TWO Lords with the SAME NAME, Yahweh.
The first Yahweh ALWAYS existed as Creator Yahweh.
And Yahweh the Father GAVE His NAME to His HUMAN Son, Jesus, AFTER the cross and resurrection to be MADE a Lord, according to Acts 2:36 and Philippians 2:8-11) how excellent is Your NAME in all the earth! Who has set Your glory above the heavens. (In other words, the Son of MAN, Jesus, gave glory to his God and Father during his ministry.
And as a reward for the OBEDIENCE of the human Son of God, Yahweh gave Jesus a NEW NAME and MADE him Lord over the earth for 1000 years during the world to come, according to Acts 2:36, Isaiah 58:8, Hebrews 12:2, Acts 2:28, Psalm 21:6, and Psalm 17:15)
Psalm 8:2. Out of the mouth of babes and suckling have You ordained strength BECAUSE of Your enemies, that You might STILL the ENEMY and the AVENGER. (The strength that Yahweh ordained is the GIFT of the Holy Spirit and POWER from on high.
But in order to RECEIVE the gift of the Holy Spirit, a person must BELIEVE and RECEIVE Yahweh’s GIFT of RIGHTEOUSNESS by FAITH in His Son Jesus and what Jesus did for us on the cross)
Psalm 8:3. When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained; (Now, the reason that I highlighted the moon and the stars in green and in blue is because during a previous age of the earth ALL of the angels were GOOD angels.
And Yahweh SET or ordained some of His angels to become gods, or RULERS over different parts of the universe. And Lucifer was made a god of the earth.
However, Lucifer and one third of the “stars” or the angels rebelled and waged a WAR against Yahweh and the rest of the good angels.
And the moon is a FIGURE of Satan, the lesser light of the children of the NIGHT.
So then, consider the Elohim, both the faithful gods and rebellious gods, asking their Creator the following question)
Psalm 8:4. What is MAN, that You are mindful of him? And the Son of MAN, that You visit him? (And, according to Isaiah 50:4-7, Yahweh visited the Son of MAN, Jesus, morning by morning to TEACH him that the Scriptures prophesied of him)
Psalm 8:5. For You have MADE him a little LOWER than the angels, (In other words, God created or made MAN and the Son of MAN, Jesus, LOWER or inferior to the angels) AND have CROWNED him with glory and honor. (To be made Lord over the earth for 1000 years during the world to come for a REASON.
And the reason for WHY God created a new species of beings called the HUMANS to be made a little LOWER than God’s previous creation of the angels is for God to JUDGE Lucifer, aka or also known as, Satan, guilty as charged.
And, according to Acts 17:29-31, Almighty God the Father will JUDGE Satan and the fallen angels, along with those disobedient to the Gospel, by the MAN who He ordained and raised from the DEAD)
Psalm 8:6. You made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet:”
The Hebrew word translated as “to STILL your enemies” means to rid His enemies, to put down or remove His enemies.
And it also carries the meaning of taking away the credibility of the enemy’s accusation against Yahweh.
Keep in mind that God’s NAME or character has been polluted or profaned by His enemy, the avenger, according to Isaiah 48:11, and Psalm 74:10-12.
Then we see that Yahweh DEFENDS His name or character in Ezekiel 28:16-19.
God says to His anointed Cherub, you were PERFECT the day that I CREATED you.
So then, in order to clear Yahweh’s name or character of being BLAMED for CREATING Lucifer and the fallen angels as being FLAWED or NOT being “created” perfect, Yahweh decided to CREATE man and the Son of MAN a little LOWER or inferior to the angels.
Now that you know and understand the REASON for why God created MAN and the Son of MAN, Jesus, was BECAUSE of His ENEMIES, I will only quote the next 7 Scriptures evidences for an OLD earth and the PREVIOUS AGE of the earth BEFORE God created the first human being Adam some 6,000 years ago, and give a very brief explanation.
In Scripture number four, we learn that God gave us prophecies of His Messiah BECAUSE of the AGE, speaking of the PREVIOUS AGE that God wants us to ASK Him about.
Scripture #4 that proves a PREVIOUS AGE!
Titus 1:2 from Young's Literal Translation.
“As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets, Which have been from the AGE;”
And another meaning of the Greek word translated as “from” the AGE also means BECAUSE of the AGE.
In other words, BECAUSE of the AGE, speaking of the PREVIOUS AGE of the earth, God needed to devise a PLAN.
Not just a plan of salvation, but also a plan to clear His NAME being blasphemed by His ENEMIES.
But God needed to keep SOME of His plan a SECRET from His enemies.
Thus, God has been PROPHESYING His plan of salvation from or since the FOUNDATION of the world.
In Scripture number five, we learn that the phrase “the FOUNDATION of the world” does NOT mean the time that the Heavens and the earth were ORIGINALLY CREATED and nothing except for God Himself existed before the foundation of the world.
Scripture #5 that proves a PREVIOUS AGE!
2 Timothy 1:9,10.
“(God) Who has saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus BEFORE the world BEGAN, (Or BEFORE the AGE BEGAN.
For you see, the Greek word translated as “world” also means AGE)
2 Timothy 1:10. But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who has abolished death, and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:”
2 Timothy 1:9 from the English Standard Version.
“Who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of His own purpose and grace, which He gave us in Christ Jesus BEFORE the AGES began,”
In Scripture number six as evidence for a PREVIOUS AGE of the earth we see the same wording, “BEFORE the AGE began”.
Scripture #6 that proves a PREVIOUS AGE!
1 Corinthians 2:7 from the Holman Christian Standard Bible.
“On the contrary, we speak God’s hidden wisdom in a mystery, which God predestined BEFORE the AGES for our glory.”
1 Corinthians 2:7 from the New King James Version.
“But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained BEFORE the AGES for our glory,”
Some YEC Christians may TRY to explain away these Scriptures that are clear evidence that mean before time began, or before this present age of the earth began.
And that is because they NEED the entire universe to be created in six LITERAL 24 HOUR days around 6,000 years ago, otherwise, their entire belief system falls apart.
But in Scripture evidence number seven we can clearly see the WRATH of Almighty God at the time of the FOUNDATION of the earth.
Scripture #7 that proves a PREVIOUS AGE!
Psalm 104:5-7.
“Who laid the FOUNDATIONS of the earth, that it should not be removed forever. (Or that it should not be removed for an AGE)
Psalm 104:6. You COVERED it with the deep as with a garment: the WATERS stood ABOVE the MOUNTAINS.
Psalm 104:7. At Your REBUKE (Or at Your REPROOF) they fled; at the voice of Your thunder, they hasted away.”
Again, some YEC Christians will TRY to explain this verse away by arguing that this means that God commanded the waters to dry up so that the dry ground could appear.
But I assure you that the YEC Christians are being DECEIVED by wrongly believing and teaching a YOUNG earth and that the entire universe was created just 6,000 years ago in 144 HOURS.
Not only is their THEORY a bad witness to the lost in the world, but it also CONTRADICTS what the Bible itself ACTUALLY teaches.
In Scripture evidence number eight for absolute proof of an OLD earth and a PREVIOUS AGE of the earth, there is no doubt that God’s WRATH is being poured out on the fallen angels at the TIME of the FOUNDATION of the earth.
Scripture #8 that proves a PREVIOUS AGE!
Job 26:7-14.
“He stretches out the north over the empty place, and hangs the earth upon nothing.
(Now, church TRADITION understands Job 26:7 as being the ORIGINAL CREATION of the earth where the earth never existed before.
But that is NOT what the CONTEXT of this verse teaches us!)
Job 26:8. He BINDS up the waters in His THICK CLOUDS; and the cloud is not rent under them. (In Revelation 17:1,15 we learn that the WATERS can mean PEOPLE.
So, according to the context and the other meanings of the Hebrew words, God is RESTRAINING Satan and the fallen angels to remain UNDER the THICK CLOUDS that God encircled the earth.
And thus, God’s enemy was not able to BREACH or rip through the CLOUD of God’s ARMY of angels to escape His wrath and judgment)
Job 26:9. He holds back the face of His throne, (Or He SEIZES BACK the face of His Throne.
Either way, how does this verse of God holding back or seizing back His THRONE FIT with an original creation of the earth?
It does NOT FIT! Therefore, we should be using these OTHER meanings of the Hebrew words to arrive at an understanding of these verses that AGREES with the whole CONTEXT and also agrees with the WHOLE Bible) and spreads His CLOUD upon it. (The word “cloud” in the Bible symbolically means protection like the pillar of a cloud in the wilderness.
And it also symbolizes an army coming like a CLOUD in Ezekiel 38:7-9.
Thus, God spread His ARMY of angels against His enemies that fled back to the earth, and He SURROUNDED the whole earth with His army of angels like a CLOUD)
Job 26:10. He has compassed the waters with BOUND, until the day and night come to an end. (Now, why would Almighty God CREATE day and night to come to an END?
That makes no logical sense at all. And that is because God is NOT talking about the ORIGINAL creation of the heavens and the earth.
Rather, God is talking about the WRATH that He poured out upon the fallen side of heaven and His setting things ARIGHT.
Day and Night are symbolic for the children of the DAY and the children of the NIGHT as being contrasted as a CHOICE for humans to choose whom they will serve.
And when the final Day of Judgment comes at the END, then there will be no more NIGHT, as in, there will be no EVIL ever again)
Job 26:11. The pillars of heaven TREMBLE and are ASTONISHED at His REPROOF. (Again, how does this CONTEXT fit with an ORIGINAL creation of the entire universe?
It does not fit because God is NOT talking about the ORIGINAL creation of the universe anywhere in the entire Bible.
Rather, the CONTEXT of Job 26:7 is about the WRATH of Almighty God cutting down the EVIL or WAR to make PEACE between the angels so that He can sit down together with His Elohim in order to SETTLE this uproar of one side of heaven against the other side of heaven)
Job 26:12. He DIVIDES the sea with his power, (Or more correctly understood, Yahweh separated the wicked corrupted fallen angels from the good angels who remained faithful to Him) and by His understanding He SMITES through the PROUD. (Again, the context surrounding verse 7 proves beyond any shadow of a doubt that Genesis 1:3-31 is NOT the ORIGINAL creation of the earth.
But rather, it is God RESTORING the earth after it BECAME without form and void because of the WAR between the angels)
Job 26:13. By His Spirit He has garnished the heavens; (This means brightness or let there be LIGHT) His hand has formed the crooked serpent. (Or more correctly translated, His hand has WOUNDED the FUGITIVE fleeing serpent)
Job 26:14. Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? But the thunder of His power who can understand?”
Or which of you has truly CONSIDERED His mighty POWER, as in, Yahweh’s mighty power to overthrow His ENEMIES, Satan and the fallen angels, when God HUNG the earth upon NOTHING in verse 7?
In other words, have any of you TRULY considered the CONTEXT of Job 26:7 to see that it actually means God SUSPENDED the earth, as in, God delayed destroying Satan and his angels in the lake of fire.
But WHY? Why did Almighty God withdraw His hand of wrath of rebuke and reproof?
For what REASON did God “tâlâh” the earth, which also means SUSPEND, especially in the sense of GIBBETTING the earth?
According to Wikipedia, here is what “gibbetting” means.
“Gibbeting is the use of a gallows-type structure from which the dead or dying bodies of criminals were hanged on public display to deter other existing or potential criminals.”
In other words, God is suspending or deferring the lake of fire to make sure that no other of His creation will ever try such an INSOLENT thing as to wage WAR.
In Scripture evidence number 9 for absolute proof of a PREVIOUS AGE of the earth we learn that what has already been shall be again.
In other words, God ALLOWING Satan to continue to corrupt in THIS AGE is part of God’s plan to execute RIGHTEOUS vengeance upon Satan and the fallen angels.
This is why God allowed DEATH to enter into this present world.
Have you ever wondered WHY God decreed such a HARSH punishment for simply disobeying His one commandment to not EAT from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
It was so that He could destroy Satan and the fallen angels with the SECOND DEATH.
For you see, God has already made His angels “spirits.”
And on the final Day of Judgment, He will make His ministers a BLAZE of fire in the lake of fire, which is the SECOND DEATH, the destruction of the soul and the body of the WICKED.
Again, notice in the next Scripture evidence that what has been done is speaking of the PAST.
In other words, there was the SIN of REBELLION in the universe BEFORE God PLANTED the Garden of Eden.
And that rebellion SHALL be again in this present AGE.
Scripture #9 that proves a PREVIOUS AGE!
Ecclesiastes 1:9-11.
“The thing that has been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
Ecclesiastes 1:10. Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? It has been already of OLD TIME, which was BEFORE us.
Ecclesiastes 1:11. There is no remembrance of FORMER things; (Or there shall be no written record that will remain of the former things) neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come (Or neither shall there be any written record that will remain of the things of this present age after the final Day of Judgment.
For you see, God will wipe away all of our tears, according to Revelation 21:4) with those that shall come after.”
Now, most Christian know and understand about the fallen angels rebelling against God, but some do NOT.
And some Christians, namely the YEC Christians, believe that the entire universe is only 6,000 years old and that God created the entire universe in just 144 HOURS.
To me, that is asking unsaved people to have BLIND FAITH is something that is so mind boggling it goes against all human logic.
Thus, in my own opinion, the YEC Christians do NOT have a good WITNESS that will draw people to have faith in Jesus.
However, the sound Biblical TRUTH of an OLD earth billions of years old and a WAR in the universe as being the REASON for why God is temporarily allowing evil to exist in the earth is EASILY relatable to the unsaved.
For you see, everyday people can understand fighting between their children.
They can understand the parents sitting down to SETTLE the matter of fighting between their children.
They can understand the parents FOUNDING some RULES with the WARNING of PUNISHMENT if the rules they founded are not obeyed.
But the entire universe being created in just 144 HOURS! How can YEC Christians themselves even wrap that around their comprehension?
Anyway, in Scripture evidence number 10, we will look at another verse that clearly teaches us that what will happen at the end of this present AGE has ALREADY happened in the PREVIOUS AGE of the earth.
Scripture #10 that proves a PREVIOUS AGE!
Ecclesiastes 3:15-17.
“That which HAS BEEN is NOW; and that which is to be HAS ALREADY BEEN; and God REQUIRES that which is PAST.
Ecclesiastes 3:16. And moreover I saw under the sun the place of JUDGMENT, that wickedness was there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there.
Ecclesiastes 3:17. I said in my heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.”
Now, as I said earlier, these TEN Scriptures are not the ONLY Scripture evidence of the FORMER AGE of the earth.
I will give you a list of many more verses with links to other translations that translated the Greek word “aiōn” as the AGE, as opposed to the “world” in the KJV translation of the Bible.

Ephesians 3:9. Hidden from the AGES.
Ephesians 3:21. Throughout all ages or GENERATIONS world without end. Or AGE, AGE, as in, an age to an age is to come. This world is coming to an end, so the KJV is not correctly translated.
Colossians 1:26. Hidden from ages.
Ephesians 6:12. Darkness of this AGE.
2 Timothy 1:9,10. Before the AGE began.
2 Timothy 4:10. Loved this present AGE.
Hebrews 2:5. WORLD (G3625) which we speak! And we know that the WORLD to come is a DIFFERENT AGE from this present AGE or present WORLD. Therefore, depending on the context, both (G3625) and (G2889) can be translated and understood as AGE.
Hebrews 4:3. Foundation of the WORLD (G2889) Or the works were finished because of DEPOSITION of AGE.
Hebrews 6:5. AGE (G165) to come
Hebrews 9:26. Since the foundation of WORLD (G2889), end of the AGE (G165) Or Jesus must suffer BECAUSE of the DEPOSITION of the AGE, yet ONCE for both ages.
Matthew 12:32. Neither this AGE nor the one to come.
2 Corinthians 4:4. The god of this AGE.
1 Corinthians 2:6. Rulers of this AGE.
Romans 12:2. Be not conformed to this AGE.
Romans 16:25. Kept secret since the AGE began.
1 Corinthians 1:20. Prophecy of the disputer of this AGE.
1 Corinthians 2:6. This AGE.
1 Corinthians 2:7. Before this AGE BEGAN.
1 Corinthians 2:8. The princes of this AGE.

Job 20:4. Since man was placed on the earth. Or did you not know that BECAUSE of the ANCIENT time, was why man was placed on the earth?
Isaiah 40:21-31. Have you not HEARD that at the FOUNDATIONS of the earth, the INHABITANTS are like grasshoppers?
Psalm 104:30. They are created and You RENEW the face of the ground. Or You renew the surface of the earth.
Isaiah 44:24,25. Stretch forth heavens alone, You frustrate the LIARS.
Job 26:7-14. He hangs the earth on nothing, He BINDS up the waters.
Job 38:4-13. The FOUNDATION of the earth is NOT what we have been taught in church!

And to me, the truth concerning who Jesus TRULY is, according to the Bible ITSELF, is the Biblical Unitarian view of Jesus.
Once Christians, Jews, Muslims, and even atheists understand the REASON that Yahweh CREATED the Son of MAN, Jesus, was to have DOMINION over the work of Yahweh’s hands.
And after you understand that the REASON that Yahweh did that is to STILL His ENEMIES, Satan and the fallen angels.
