***What Does Exodus 20:11 TRULY mean?
Here is Exodus 20:11 from the KJV. “For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.”
Does Exodus 20:11 PROVE that God CREATED the heavens and the earth is SIX LITERAL 24 hour DAYS as the Young Earth Creationist Christians dogmatically demand?
In other words, does this verse of Scripture prove that the Bible ITSELF teaches us that the entire universe was created in exactly 144 HOURS and not one minute longer?
For you see, that is how YEC Christians INTERPRET Genesis 1:1-31 to mean.
And they use Exodus 20:11 and Exodus 31:17 to TRY to prove that God created the entire universe around 6,000 years ago in exactly 144 hours and not one minute longer.
However, the Bible ITSELF teaches us that God RESTORED the earth around 6,000 years ago.
In other words, the only thing that God CREATED 6,000 years ago was the first HUMAN, which He made a little LOWER than the Elohim, according to Psalm 8:5.
And the REASON for WHY God man and the Son of MAN was BECAUSE of His ENEMIES.
Thus, one third of the angels rebelled and waged a WAR against the other side of heaven BEFORE the SIXTH day, according to what the Bible ITSELF teaches us.
Therefore, if the YEC Christians are correct in their INTERPRETATION of the Scriptures, then that means that one third of the entire creation of angels rebelled against their Creator in LESS than 144 HOURS after being created.
And that forces God to look like a not so good Creator as opposed to a very GOOD Creator in Genesis 1:31.
So, to me, the YEC Christians ERROR in their understanding of the Scriptures!
And the Old Earth Creation Christians have the CORRECT understanding of Genesis 1:3-31 as God RESTORING the earth over 6,000 years or in six 1000 year-long DAYS.

The Young Earth Creationist Christians Are Deceived!
The only thing that Exodus 20:11 and Exodus 31:17 prove is that the WEEKLY Sabbath day in the LETTER of the Law of Moses is a 24 hour day.
But the TRUE Sabbath day, which is the SPIRIT of the law, is a 1000 year-long Sabbath day.
Now, in the Verse Study on Exodus 31:17, I cover the OTHER meanings of the Hebrew words translated as “day” and as “made” in great detail.
So, in this Verse Study, I will only explain a small portion of what I already cover in the study called Exodus 31:17 Was Earth Was Created in Six 24 Hour Days?

For the remainder of this study, I will cover why many Christians are leaving the YEC Christian movement to now believe and teach the OLD Earth Creationist understanding of the WHOLE word of Almighty God.

Total KJV occurrences: 2295.
And the Bible itself uses the word DAY to mean 12 hours in a day, a day to mean a full year, a day to be as a full 1000 years, and day to simply mean an unspecified span of TIME in the past or in the future, such as in the DAY of Noah and the Lord’s DAY.
For example, the Apostle Peters WARNS us to NOT be IGNORANT concerning the DAY of the Lord as being 1000 years of TIME.
2 Peter 3:8.
“But, beloved, be NOT IGNORANT of this one thing, that ONE DAY is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as ONE DAY.”
Where did Peter get that understanding? Was it from the Old Testament Scriptures?
Notice that the TIME in Psalm 90:2-5 is BEFORE the mountains were brought forth or ever God had FORMED the earth and the world.
So then, clearly the 1000 year-long DAY is directly CONNECTED to the earth and the WORLD being FORMED.”
Again, the word “in” is NOT in the original text. Therefore, the literal reading is as follows.
“For six days the LORD made heaven and earth, (Or more correctly understood, For six spans of TIME the LORD BRUISED heaven and earth,) the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore. the LORD blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.”

For the remainder of this study, I will cover some of the HISTORY of how the YEC movement started and when it began.
I will be taking quotes from a website of a FORMER Young-Earther whose eyes were opened to the TRUTH of God’s word, which teaches an OLD earth that BECAME without form and void, and then God RESTORED the earth in Genesis 1:3-31.
Here is the first quote that shows WHEN the YEC movement began. The emphasis is mine.
“John Whitcomb and Henry Morris published The Genesis Flood in 1961.
They intended the work to be a response to Bernard Ramm, who in 1954 had published a work arguing that Noah’s Deluge was a local catastrophe.
Borrowing heavily from George McCready Price (1870-1963), a Seventh-Day Adventist author, Whitcomb and Morris contended that the flood of Noah’s day accounts for practically all the geological record.
By any standard, the book was a publishing success with over 300,000 copies sold.
The Genesis Flood launched the modern young-earth creationism (YEC) movement.
Let us remember that prior to 1961, the majority of fundamentalist and evangelical leaders held to some version of old-earth creationism (OEC).1”
So then, the YEC Christian movement BEGAN in 1961, and PRIOR to 1961, the majority of Christians believed and taught OLD Earth Creationism.
This one point of placing so much emphasis on the geological record to try to support a church doctrine should raise a RED FLAG to Christians.
The next point of concern is how Whitcomb and Morris held to certain beliefs such as the “canopy theory” and then later they rejected that theory as not being true.
Here is a second quote from the same website so that you can see what YEC Christians started out believing and then changed their minds. The emphasis is mine.
“The creation account (Gen 1:6) speaks of God separating the waters above the firmament from the waters below the firmament.
Whitcomb and Morris interpreted this to teach that God place a vapor canopy above the atmosphere.5
This canopy provided the waters that inundated the world during Noah’s flood.
Whitcomb and Morris argued that the vapor covering provided by the canopy created a very different environment for the pre-flood world from that of the present world.6
The blanket of water produced a very favorable greenhouse effect that created a moderate climate worldwide.
They interpreted Gen 2:5-6 to teach that it in those days it did not rain, and suggest that the vapor canopy provided the mist mentioned.
In addition, the canopy acted as a protection from cosmic rays, which perhaps accounted for the remarkably long lives listed in the genealogies of Gen 4-5.
Due to others finding flaws in the YEC geological evidence, there was a need to UPDATE the YEC model of their theory.
And in doing this updating the changed what they formerly believed about the canopy theory.

This was just one of MANY changes that have been made in what the YEC Christians started out believing in 1961.
Here are some other doctrinal changes in the YEC Christian movement. Again, the emphasis is mine.

Snelling, along with other global flood advocates, realize that Whitcomb and Morris’ argument that entropy was a manifestation of the curse was extremely problematic.24
Without the second law in force no normal process would be able to function.
For example, the second law is necessary for digestion.
Whitcomb and Morris’ theory also seemed to be contrary to certain biblical passages.
The Bible states that Eden had four rivers (Gen 2:10-14). Rivers are channels of water flowing from a higher level to a lower level. By definition they are examples of the second law in action.

Snelling makes no mention of the fossils found in the riverbed of the Paluxy River.
To their credit, most young-earth proponents (with a few notable exceptions) admit that the supposedly human footprints are in fact not human at all.
Henry Morris’ son, John Morris publicly acknowledges that none of the prints “can today be regarded as unquestionably of human origin.”25
Snelling departs from Whitcomb and Morris at another significant point in that Snelling accepts the validity of the geological column.26
The column is real, and so is the sequence of the fossil record. However, Snelling contends that the geological strata do not present a chronological record.
Rather they give evidence of geographical distinctions. The four broad geological divisions—the Precambrian, the Paleozoic, the Mesozoic, and the Cenozoic—give evidence of four distinct bio-geographical regions.
This forms the basis of the “ecological zonation theory,” which we will examine next…”
Now, as if all of the CHANGES are not enough to raise many RED FLAGS warning of FALSE teaching, then INVENTING things from their imaginations should be all one needs to FLEE away from the YEC teachings.

One serious challenge to the global flood model is the amount of coal and oil deposits located in the earth.
Such deposits are the remnants of buried vegetation. There simply could not have been enough vegetation growing on the earth at one time to account for all the deposits that have been found.
As a solution, Snelling, along with Wise and others, propose that during the pre-flood era there existed giant floating continents.29
Upon these floating islands, which covered much of the world’s oceans, grew immense forests.
Can you not see trying to base one’s FAITH on fictional inventing of floating islands that covered much of the world's oceans, just to TRY to prove that the entire universe was created in 144 hours around 6,000 years ago, is borderline desperation just so they can be RIGHT?
On the other hand, the OLD Earth Creationists Christians are free to focus on what the Bible ITSELF teaches.
And I do not know of any Old Earth Christians who wrongly believe and teach the FALSE man-made theory of evolution and that HUMAN evolved rather than being CREATED by Almighty God.
But yet, we old earth believers are being treated as if we SIDE with evolutionists, just because we believe that the Bible ITSELF teaches us of a PREVIOUS AGE of the earth BEFORE God created Adam.
