B. Financial Update and Q1 Projections

The attached financial statements through September 30, 2013 show projections for the first quarter. Because there is irregular purchasing activity at the beginning of the school year, management simply performed a budget to actual salary and benefit comparison after the "first" payroll of the school year and showed those additional needs in the projection for the Technology and Instruction categories.

C. Grant and FY13 Turnback Appropriation Requests

In the past two months, school leadership has reviewed FY13 grant expenditures and determined eligible FY14 roll-over funding at the same time that they have received 2013-2014 award notification from the Virginia Department of Education on federal and state grants. School leadership has also worked with the County to identify possible uses for FY13 County turnback funds. Detailed information shows how the School federal and operating funds will utilize these additional funds. We recommend that the School Board requests that the Board of Supervisors amend the FY2014 School Operating Fund from the current appropriated amount of $24,274,864 to $25,213,404 in the indicated categories and the FY2014 Federal Grant Fund from the approved amount of $1,167,403 to $1,346.069.
