Leaving for a five day camping trip five days into a huge renovation project may not be the best idea. However, the camping trip had been planned months before we knew when we'd be in "the thick of it" and...well...sometimes you just need family time. Was it easy to walk away from the seven million things that needed to be done? 100% NO. Did we drive home in the middle of the week just to check on things? 100% YES. Was the camping trip worth it? Also, 100% yes. We all had a great time (despite the grossest showers I've ever encountered at a campground and I was grateful for the quick trip home so we could squeeze in a shower). It was a great way to kick off the summer with the boys...that did not involve bleach or tools.

I highly recommend Hearthstone Point Campground in Lake George. Despite the gross showers, the proximity to the lake and hikes is worth the inconvenience of being dirty - just don't plan a super long trip.

While we were gone you can see the roofers (Phelps Brothers) finished the extensive job. It sure does look pretty. The test will be when the rains and snow come...I'll let you know how we fare. We were happy with their work. They were a pretty professional crew and did ALL this in 4 very long days. They arrived at 7 am and would work until almost 8 in the evening.

You can see the yard now. It is no longer a jungle. I have to get a shot facing the pond.

Currently a lot of the trees are either on our front lawn or mulched into a path in the back towards the creek. The path is 8-10 inches thick, 8 feet wide and needs to be tamed. Send your teen-aged boys and or wheel barrows, you are welcome to take some. We pay teenagers in food, excellent book suggestions, and sometimes cash.

Shout out to Cassidy's Tree Service. They are working their tails off in the heat and uncooperative grounds to get these trees out.

For those of you wondering, our outdoor cats, Cookie and Sherman, are doing well. They always seem a little pissed at us when we show up to feed them - like, "Hey, where the hell are you guys all the time?" And, "What's up with all these people making the racket? We're cats, we sleep for 22 hours a day!!!"

But, they still purr and show us their bellies...so I guess they aren't too mad.

Having been gone for nearly a week, I really felt the need to do SOMETHING when we got back today, even though it's hot enough to melt crayons on the dirt road. There's this set of stairs in the back that's covered with leaves...so I uncovered them. They are magical. I'm pretty sure I'm going to run down them at some point in my wedding dress (when I lose 50 pounds...or I'll just buy some other great dress) with glass slippers...that's how magical these steps are.
