Raise your hand if you are familiar with "the salad rule." I know I can't see you - but it's good to get some movement, especially if you have been on your screen for a while. Not familiar with "the salad rule?" It's that notion that a salad always tastes better when someone else makes it. It's weird, but try it sometime, it's true. Salad tastes infinitely better when someone else makes it for you.

I am finding, however, this rule does not apply to home improvement. It would be lovely if we had loads of money and could hire contractors to do all the work, but there's a lot to be said for doing as much as we can ourselves.

Liam will feel such a sense of ownership and accomplishment when we have a beautiful house to invite friends to (one day...). The kitchen and bathroom floors will be what they are thanks to him and all his demo skills. Finn...well...he can say he witnessed it all.

Today I learned how to use a floor scraper. That was after getting home to learn the hardware store that rented it to me forgot to give me the power cord and I had to drive all the way back to get it. For those of you who know where we live - I lost an hour because nothing is a close drive for us.
