...is all I get now. Two days instead of two months to work on the house. It's nearly impossible to get over to the Firkin on a weekday between soccer practices, making lunches and dinner, and homework hasn't even really begun. Bill and I put on our game faces, though. Today I roasted two chickens and Bill made a meatloaf AND chili! Take that LIFE! The kids WILL eat real food this week. (Apologies to my vegetarian and vegan readers...this photo is a little much.)

So, here's what I did with my two days. (Friday I got sucked into chaperoning BOTH soccer games at the tournament, so Friday was a total loss in terms of the Firkin. Need to work on my "No."

So, the best part about Saturday was Liam and his friend Alex putting the first coat of paint on his book shelves. This saved me an ENORMOUS amount of time and they did a great job.

Then, I had a delightful visit from the architect and his wife. Now...I know I know their names and they are super nice and friendly...but I like calling them "the architect and his wife" on the blog. It sounds fancy to me. They brought AN ARTIFACT!! I'll be adding it to my contest at school because we have no idea what on earth it is. Like, NONE. But it was found here at the Butter Firkin...

Now for the part where my day went downhill. A few friends loaned me their paint sprayers. One turned out to be so heavy, Liam and I struggled to get it in the truck...to be honest..we were at the high school until 10 the night before, I think we were just spent. THEN, after I spent half the morning prepping Liam's bookshelves, I spent the other half creating a "booth" in my garage for my upcoming spraying. Well...after reading the instruction booklet extensively and then watching not one or two but FOUR videos on how to work this thing it STILL would not work. It was nearing 3 o'clock and I had DONE NOTHING. NOTHING. So, I grabbed a roller and just got to it.

A really important element of this weekend's success was provided by a wonderful woman by the name of Brigitte - she took Finn for the WHOLE weekend. Roller skating, swimming, and a sleep over. (She has a son who happens to be one of Finn's best friends - I wouldn't want anyone to get the wrong idea...) Anyway, holy moly was this a gift.

The finished shelves. I have to admit...they look pretty darn good. And I could not have gotten it done if Liam and Alex had not applied the first coat. #grateful (<- that's me trying to be hip.)

Let's avert our eyes to the first shelves, beautifully, painstakingly, HAND painted to be placed back in the cabinets. Wow. I'm tearing up a little. You? (If not, you are heartless and when I see you next you just go ahead and pretend you teared up at this picture. Yup, I have actually lost my mind. It's okay, I'm even more fun now.)

Yep...so...I am planning on moving in this coming weekend. One working bathroom, mostly functional kitchen...three bedrooms in tact...we can do this. See ya on the flip side!
