This one's for Sarah

A friend at work lamented that there just aren't enough posts these days...so I decided to name this post for her. I wish I had time to write and paint and scrub more mold...because as you've recently seen, there's more of it, but alas, apparently I have to actually go to my job. (Which I love...but it sure does get in the way of the Firkin.)

My intention was to give you a really dramatic post, but I'm just going to go ahead and tell you, it's anticlimactic. Yesterday we came home and the water in the toilet and sinks was a muddy, cloudy brownish red. Let me tell you, I was literally up all night about it. I was dressed for work by 5 because I could not sleep thinking about the potential issues that could be in store. We had just had the back yard graded with a bull dozer, Bill seeded the hill and ran sprinklers - so I was sure something tragic had happened to our well. Turns out, the really nice guys over at Smith Wells and Drilling said it was totally normal and not to worry. Something about it not being used for a long time and knocking loose some rust... And when I got home today - this is what I found:

Can you even tell which is the bottled and which is the sink water? (Sink is on the right.)

This just looks like one of the boys didn't flush, but I assure you it was freshly flushed and washed with bleach. So, still a little yellow, but definitely getting better.

Also today, evidence the painters were at our house...

That drop cloth is not mine, so evidence.

I'm pretty sure some scraping of old paint happened here today....

The Adirondack room, on the left, definitely got a fresh coat.

The mud room, and Adirondack room both have fresh coats.

So far, these guys are very nice to work with. VERY.

The Firkin in the fall...

Bill bought me this sky chair (the one hanging in the tree) a few years back. Where it is positioned now it looks out over the pond or swings back up towards the house. The apple tree it hangs from isn't looking so good...I really hope it survives...especially after the massacre of the blackberry bushes.

Bill has put down grass seed and hay...hopefully we'll start something that looks like a lawn. I'm going to have to do something about the brush growing around the tree, but in the meantime, it's a wonderful place to breathe before or after work....
