The story starts about 30 years ago when my mom and stepdad purchased this house on the left. It was their second home, their "country house" because we lived in Staten Island and whenever we came to this little slice of heaven we referred to it as "upstate."

For example, "Britt, want to hang out this weekend?"

The house AND it's location were both called "upstate." It's a gorgeous piece of land - a hill overlooking a lake. We spent summers, winters, and falls here. Probably springs...but maybe not so much because they are muddy and downstate is just as colorless and bland. I loved it here. My family loved it here. I loved it so much I had notions of raising my family here when I 'grew up' (has that happened, the growing up part...?).

During graduate school my parents let me live in the caretaker's house, which sealed my love for the area. Liam and I lived here for a couple of months before we moved to Texas. Liam named it, "The Sharing House" because my parents were always willing to let anyone who needed the space use it. And when Bill and I finally moved back to New York we bought a house on the VERY SAME ROAD as THIS HOUSE (The Sharing/Upstate House, in case that wasn't clear).

For the last seven years we have enjoyed life in this house. It was the perfect place to raise the boys. Woods, lawn, a room for everyone....but across the road...well...if you've been reading since the beginning, you know that right across the road the Butter Firkin was slowly calling to us.

This is the gorgeous view from my parent's place. And, once again, they have opened their place up to us so we have a place to live while the renovations are being done.

So, this road. Clearly, I was meant to be on it. For 30 years I keep coming back. My heart is here. My home is here...if you want to hang out with me, you'll find me on this road.

Guys, I could write for days. It's taking all my self control to not post TWO entries a day....Every day truly is an adventure. I'll end with this lovely view of our backyard with all the trees down.
