Hey strangers! Here are the latest happenings here at the Firkin. I wish there were more developments, but we will have to wait for February break for some real work to get done on my part. For now, our contractors have been busting their humps to finish the Adirondack room. They are just about done. Today they put in the windows and in a few days we will finalize the lighting and electricity. Bill recently shared with me all of his photos of the work start to finish, so I will share them with you here:

It turned out that only half of the floor was from the original structure and worth keeping. I am not sure why we decided to replace the other half with pine...I apparently was not around for that conversation, so here is what we have. Ultimately, the entire floor needs to be finished, so there will be cohesiveness one day. When is that day? I do not know. Some things just happen when they happen.

This is the view into the Adirondack Room from the kitchen. Over the February break we plan to get a couch for this room. A very ambitious plan is to stain ALL THE PINE (gasp - cuz that's a LOT of pine) this summer. Can you say paint party? There will be loads of sipping...I'll attach a sign up sheet to this website and anyone who wants to volunteer gets kudos, shout outs on the blog, and my eternal gratitude.

I know we were supposed to spend our Christmas money on real window treatments...but a new bed took precedence. Paper blinds aren't so bad...right? Well, actually, they are, but I don't know about you, but us Buckenroth's need sleep to function properly. Our bed did not survive the move and three months in an 18 foot container...and two boys who jump on the bed no matter how many times you tell them not to. So. New bed. LOVE IT. It's still a platform bed, but this one is about foot or so higher off the ground than our last one.

We did budget for a carpet in the guest room. It's lovely. I did have some say, but Bill really gets the credit for finding it. I helped choose between two colors. Don't ask me which, because I have already forgotten.
