This project develops the ability to design a complex of residential area in an urban village scheme as part of the proposed development. Students are expected to create a masterplan which consist of mixed-use neighbourhood and to focus on developing a multi-level, residential building as an integral part of the urban village context that critically examine issues of architectural design, urban design, site analysis in a theoretical, speculative, or research-based manner, supported by related contemporary theory and the law and management practices as a basis of design decisions. This project shall require a higher degree of autonomous work by students, who after five previous studios can direct a line of inquiry and sustain it through design work over a full semester.
The project shall challenge students to draw upon the full range of knowledge acquired and developed over the preceding program studies. The creation of well-developed, comprehensive design solutions that are informed by other subjects is expected. Thus, it provides a vehicle for exploration of Building Technology in relation to medium scale buildings, including the integration of Building Services.
