"Ré-Guard-A : The Kiosk"
The Ré-Guard-A pop-up store is a sculptural retail kiosk located at India Street Pedestrian Mall. Drawing inspiration from the garment’s concept, the Sarawak Regatta, the kiosk is an installation of timber arches hung on a beam that gradually changes in length and angles away from the ground, the floating façade creating a dynamic snapshot of the regatta boat paddles in motion.
Internally, the kiosk is arranged such that the visitors experience the store as if in a race themselves. Surrounded by furniture formed like rowboats, visitors arrive at the entrance to a waiting area. Here they can view the display panels showing the garment’s information before their turn to enter.
Once inside, the race begins. Sorted into their respective lanes, visitors can then browse the garment displays which are categorized into different aisles according to three size ranges; XS-S, M and L-XL.
After grabbing their garment, visitors can choose to proceed to the fitting room or to the payment counter towards the end of this linear pop-up store. Where the counter is located before the exit, the Ré-Guard-A kiosk narrows much like the bow (front end) of a boat. As opposed to the wider entrance, the narrow exit not only serves to control the circulation, but also to symbolize that a race ends with only one winner.
