My garment design is inspired by the Long House. The life inside the longhouse itself is full of collaboration, respect and trust. Therefore, crime and social diseases are practically unheard in these communities. In this project, the design of Long House will be apply to depict the way people need to behave in order to protect their life quality by preventing the Covid-19 together. Brown colour is used to portray the colour of the long house while the texture of wood bark walls have been depicted using brown greenish craft paper. The shape of the roof which is upside down ‘V’ has been applied to the shoulder and hands part of the garment. In addition, the pattern of Dayak motif which is usually drawn at the columns of the long houses has been used to decorate the upper body part of the garment. Next, element of lines at the skirt is portraying the elements of line that we can see through the long house such as the stairs, column, fences and others.
The design of the kiosk is inspired by the design of the garment in Project 1. Generally, the design of the garment is inspired by the longhouse. Therefore, in this pop-up kiosk project, the space of 'Ruai' in the longhouse is applied to the design of the kiosk. Ruai is a place where the community of the longhouse do some gathering activities. People who come visit the longhouse will feel welcomed when they enter the 'Ruai' space. On the other hand, this pop-up kiosk will be located in India Street, Kuching. Based on the history, the street also presents the true essence of Malaysia unity, which is that the Indian settlers at the street and the neighboring Chinese community were really welcoming to each other. In this project, the vibe of communal space and welcoming each other is applied to the kiosk. The pop-up kiosk have an entrance door and exit door that can ease the circulation of the people. Next, the composition of the space also is good and easy for the customer to look around the kiosk. There is also a sitting area prepared for the comfort of the customer.
The lifestyle of the community around the Ban Hock Road bus stop is focusing on planting some greenery. They also do some recreations such as strolling, walking and chatting with neighbors. Based on this communal vibe, a new bus stop is designed to attract people to go to the bus stop and live up the communal vibe there. Instead of letting the bus stop not be usable, the community can get some benefits from this new bus stop design. There are few functionalities added to create a much better environment at the bus stop. Firstly, the social place on the mezzanine floor allows the community to spend time together there. There is also a small stall provided for the people to do some business matters and it also can give some profit to both Ban Hock community and MBKS authority. In addition, a delivery locker was also provided to make it easier for both community and courier who related to online buying.
