The inspiration of the garment emanate from the prominent natural landmark in Sarawak known as the Mulu National Park. It is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Site that encompasses caves and karst formations. The majestic mountain situated around green lush of equatorial rainforest. The formation of karst gave rise to the prominent appearance of the pinnacles laced with green trees. The signature look of the garments is the abstract representation of the pinnacles laced with greens. The pointy glimmering rhombus resembling the geometry of the pinaccles and karst formation paired with the glimmering green rhombus scale skirt resembling the rainforest creeping from the base of the mountain to the pinnacle. The rhombus geometry creeping from bottom to top; wrapping around the body to head mimicking the formation of the karst becoming the peak.
The designation of the booth is located at India street Kuching. The venue is one of the Kuching heritage consist of small pathway linking from one end to another allowing pedestrian and tourist to roam around.
The design of the booth is the amalgamation of the elements of the heritage site and the garment concept.
Inspired by the signature features appearance and the typology of traditional old shop houses, the booth facade consists of the louvre window and meshed ventilation mimicking the natural ventilation system used in the heritage shop houses while fussing with the kinetic facade inspired by the roller shutter shattering sound whenever an object pass by at higher velocity creating wind drag.
The kinetic facade also becomes the indicator whenever high crowd passing by creating more wind drag that visualize on the facade. The kinetic facade is inspired by the skin of my garment. The form of the booth is adapted to the site as well taking in consideration of the pathway without being too obstructive.
During the non-operating hours, the booth is able to be collapse as smaller Block making it a centre piece of light installation during the night. The arrangement of the block when expanded are adapted to the site walk path whereas dwellers are able to walk back and forth from all side
Pause is a bus stop designed for MBKS that is located at Jalan ban hock near the KMC flats. The outcome of this concept is the amalgamation of manmade structures and nature. Locally sourced materials are used to construct this bus stop. All these materials require low maintenance and indicates a humble character as it blends well with the surroundings.
The middle opening of the roof provides better ventilation. Trees blurs out the boundaries between inside and outside. Light and shadows varies throughout the day giving different mood and experience.
