Painter Sofia Minson

was born in Aucklan (New Zealand)

in 1984.

She was a great defender of the New Zealand culture. She also celebrates Asian, Pacific, Western and African cultural diversity.

She has exhibited from 2004 in her country wining in 2005 some prizes with her Maorí Art, with exhibitions in Italy and New York in 2006.

Her oil paintings are often large portraits that depict the land, the myths and the people of New Zealand combining realism and surrealism.

Another important facet of her work is street art, where she has done some large-scale portraits of Maorí relevant people as artists, musicians or activists. In 2010 The Portraits Gallery of New Zealand commissioned her to do the portrait of the anthropologist “Dame Joan Metge”, belonging today to its permanent collection.

She has worked together with many other New Zealand artists, including graffiti artists, creating cross-cultural collaborative artworks.
