EMMA THOMPSON

ACTRESS / ACTRIZ

Born in Paddinton, London in 1950, Emma Thompson in is one of the UK's most praised British actresses, who keeps herself very busy as she is also a screenwriter, activist and comedian. She is probably one of my favourite Bristish actresses, not only because she is extraordinary, but also because she has starred in many literary adaptations like The Remains of the Day (1993), Much Ado about Nothing (1994), Sense and Sensibility (1995), and the more recent The Children Act (2017).

When asked about her religious views, Emma has said: "I'm an atheist ... I regard religion with fear and suspicion. It's not enough to say that I don't believe in God. I actually regard the system as distressing: I am offended by some of the things said in the Bible and the Qur'an and I refute them."

Thompson has been described as "overly outspoken": she won't hesitate to voice her views when she wishes. She believes that we all need to speak up and "a woman who has got a louder voice needs to shout very loudly indeed."

She is very much involved in humanitarian work (Action Aid, Elton John AIDS Foundation, Helen Bamber Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture) as well as being an active environmentalist, campaigning against climate change and supporting Greenpeace.

Her list of awards achieved thoroughout her life is neverending and most deserved: Oscars and Golden Globe awards for best actress in Howards End (1992), and best adapted screenplay for Sense & Sensibility (1995), The Empire Award for best actress in Saving Mr. Banks, three BAFTA awards, to name but a few.

I am sure she will keep delighting us with her outstanding work in the future. ADMIRABLE INDEED!
