Mai Khoi was born in 1982 in Vietnam.

She is a Vietnamese artist and activist.

At the age 12 she wrote her first song and joined her father´s wedding band the same year.

As a Singer she has toured the USA, Europe, Australia and Taiwan. But she has problems in her country.

After she began speaking in favour of greater creative freedom in her country and stopped sending her song lyrics to censors, the Vietnamese government banned her concerts in the country.

She was detained after Europe tour in 2018, she was held for eight hours and copies of her a new album were confiscated.

She nominated herself to run in the National Assembly election on a platform.

Her campaign sparked a national debate about political participation and culminated in a meeting with Barack Obama in May 2016.

Mai Khoi is part of the dissident trio Mai Khoi Ghem Gió and the group released their first album "Dessent" in 2017.

She is a campaigner for free speech.

She is received the pop music award Va´claw Havel.

Last November she protested against current US President Donald Trump´s visit to Vietnam.
