actress, and author.

She was born in Liverpool.

The Beatles were her friends, supported her carreer and wrote songs for her.

Born Priscilla Maria Veronica White, she grew up singing in a musically orientated household in one of the toughest parts of Liverpool.

She quickly became a local celebrity and performed alongside many legendary musicians such as The Beatles and Gerry & the Pacemakers.

In the 60s she had two number 1 singles: "Anyone Who Had a Heart" and "You're My World".

She had a successful musical career in the 1960s and early 1970s, and she also hosted her own TV show, Cilla, for the BBC between 1968 and 1976. After a short time as a comedy actress in the mid-1970s, she became an important and well-known television presenter in the 1980s and 1990s, hosting very popular and prime-time entertainment shows such as Blind Date (1985–2003), The Moment of Truth (1998–2001), and Surprise Surprise (1984–2001).

In 2013, Black celebrated 50 years in show business. British television network ITV honoured her with a an entertainment special which was broadcast on 16th October 2013. The show was called The One & Only Cilla Black.

Cilla Black died at her holiday home near Estepona, in Spain. The day after her funeral, the compilation album The Very Best of Cilla Black went to number one on the UK Albums Chart.
