FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE

NURSE, WRITER and STATESWOMAN (1820-1910)

She was born in Florence on May 12, 1820, and because of it every May 12th is celeblated the international nursing day.

Florence was the daughter or a wealthy English family; she dedicated herself to traveling and visiting hospitals where she learned the profession.

In 1845 along with 38 nurses she was sent to Crimea war. At the end of the war she was received in her country, as a heroine knows as –The Lady with the lamp-.

En 1860 she founded the first nursing school and started working on sanitary regulations. Florence´s contributions to modern nursing are a legacy.

The WHO (World Health Organisation) declared this year 2020, coinciding with the 200th anniversary on the birth of Florence, the International year of Nurse and Midwife.
