ANNIE SMITH PECK

MOUNTANEER

ANNIE SMITH PECK

October 19, 1850 – July 18, 1935

A mountaineer, an educator and a writer.

Known for being an adventurer, a suffragist, a feminist.

This American woman is especially notable for breaking three barriers: in sports, in gender and racial.

She managed to climb the Huascarán Mountain in Peru; whose top was originally named after her name.

In addition, she was a renowned suffragette and speaker who knew how to make her sports achievements an awareness campaign about social change for which some of the women (not so many men) of the time were already prepared.
