Mary Louise Streep, better known as Meryl Streep,

was born in Summit, New Jersey, United States,

on the 22th June, 1949.

She is a theatre, film and television actress.

She has received 31 nominations to the Golden Globe, being eight times winner, 21 times Oscar nominee, more than any other actor or actress in history, and she has won three. She was once told that she was very ugly for the role of Jane in King Kong and today she is one of Hollywood's biggest actresses.

In 2004 she was honoured by the American Film Institute for her contribution to American culture through the performing arts, being the youngest actress to be distinguished.

In 2010 she was recognized with the National Medal of the Arts by Barack Obama. She is Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

In her adolescence she took opera classes, since she had a beautiful voice, but Streep always opted for acting; however, her voice has been a great complement to her career as an actress, a clear example is Mamma Mia!.

The actress has also recorded a series of audio books for children. She was nominated in 1986 by stuffed rabbit in the category of best album for children.

Streep is the spokesperson for the National Museum of Women's History of the United States, for which she has donated a significant amount of money (including her payment for the film The Iron Lady) and has directed numerous events.

On October 4, 2012, she donated $ 1 million to the Public Theatre. She also supported the "Chime For Change" campaign by Gucci, in favor of women.
