Habitat:

  • Hard and soft - coastal waters on rocky or sandy bottoms.
  • Younger individuals can also be found in brackish waters and may live in littoral pools.
  • Adults often occur in the surf zone

Water column position:

  • Benthopelagic

Schooling characteristics:

  • Solitary

Colors & patterns:

  • Snout pointed
  • 10-13 vertical dark streaks (may disappear).
  • Dark blotch forming complete ring around caudal peduncle.
  • Adults may loose their dark bars and display small spots.
  • Posterior margin of tail is dark.

Behavior:

  • Easy to approach when it's looking for food.

Feeding: Seaweeds, worms, mollusks and shrimps
