Habitat:
- Hard and soft - coastal waters on rocky or sandy bottoms.
- Younger individuals can also be found in brackish waters and may live in littoral pools.
- Adults often occur in the surf zone

- Benthopelagic
Schooling characteristics:
- Solitary
Colors & patterns:
- Snout pointed
- 10-13 vertical dark streaks (may disappear).
- Dark blotch forming complete ring around caudal peduncle.
- Adults may loose their dark bars and display small spots.
- Posterior margin of tail is dark.
Behavior:
- Easy to approach when it's looking for food.
Feeding: Seaweeds, worms, mollusks and shrimps
