Habitat:

  • Soft - sandy muddy bottoms
  • Hard- associated with reefs and with rocky tidal pools

  • Pelagic-Neritic (?)

Colors & patterns:

  • Silvery body with 3-4 golden-brown stripes along its body, merging towards the caudal peduncle
  • Dark blotch on upper gill cover (operculum)
  • Dorsal fin deeply notched; anal fin short; pectoral fin rather long

Behavior:

  • Reef-associated
  • Diurnal (?)
  • Indifferent (?)

Schooling characteristics:

  • Small groups
  • Large schools

Feeding: Feeds on crustaceans, molluscs, small fish and polychaete

Native/Exotic: Exotic

EM notes: Immigrated from the Red Sea through the Suez canal. It was recorded for the first time in the Mediterranean in 1969.
