- Soft - sandy muddy bottoms
- Hard- associated with reefs and with rocky tidal pools

Colors & patterns:
- Silvery body with 3-4 golden-brown stripes along its body, merging towards the caudal peduncle
- Dark blotch on upper gill cover (operculum)
- Dorsal fin deeply notched; anal fin short; pectoral fin rather long

- Reef-associated
- Diurnal (?)
- Indifferent (?)
Schooling characteristics:
- Small groups
- Large schools
Feeding: Feeds on crustaceans, molluscs, small fish and polychaete
Native/Exotic: Exotic
EM notes: Immigrated from the Red Sea through the Suez canal. It was recorded for the first time in the Mediterranean in 1969.
