  • Usually reddish brown, sometimes mottled with black or pale grey spots with black streak above maxilla. lower jew very prominent. tail slightly concave with pointed tips.
  • Juveniles - have black saddle blotch on peduncle. the lines on their body seems slightly more defined than the adult don't confuse with Epinephelus costea.
