- Body colors are variable: overall color pale-gray, sometimes greenish, seldom dark; night marbled pattern sometime displayed by day

- Reef-associated - related to sites it inhabits
- Diurnal
- Shy
Schooling characteristics:
- Large schools
Feeding: Feeds by grazing on algae
Native/Exotic: Exotic
EM notes: Immigrated from the Red Sea through the Suez canal. It has been recorded in the Mediterranean since 1927.
WARNING! Fin spines are slightly venomous.
