  • Mixed sandy and rocky bottoms

  • body very silvery (occasionally with dark indistinct patches); fins pale yellow
  • Mouth small and low set; back rounded, belly almost flat
  • Dark blotch on the upper corner of operculum (sometimes faded)

Behavior:

  • Reef-associated
  • Shoals shelter in caves/crevices/overhangs
  • Enters estuaries and lagoons at sexual maturation
  • Diurnal (?)
  • Indifferent/Easily approached

Schooling characteristics:

  • Large schools

Feeding: feeds on bottom and near-bottom invertebrates
