- Archival = anything added to a video that is NOT OWNED by VICE - examples include photos, footage, graphics, etc!
- Materials = items appearing on-screen with-in VICE-shot footage - examples include posters, trophies, statues, figurines, & MUCH MORE!
IN ORDER TO USE ARCHIVAL OR MATERIALS, YOU MUST GET WRITTEN PERMISSION FROM THE CORRECT COPYRIGHT OWNER!
- Because we air our videos on many different platforms & in many different locations, all archival & materials should be licensed or released for ALL MEDIA, WORLDWIDE, IN PERPETUITY terms with promotional rights!
- Please Note - it sometimes costs more money to license or release someone else's archival or materials for ALL MEDIA, WORLDWIDE, IN PERPETUITY terms, but this does not mean you should accept a license/release with restricted terms
- If the archival or material you want to use in a video is not available to be licensed or released for ALL MEDIA, WORLDWIDE, IN PERPETUITY terms --> it must be flagged & approved by a creative head PRIOR to locking a cut!
- What if you want to re-use VICE footage that was shot for another VICE production in your new video?
This is a great way to keep licensing costs low, but can be very complicated legally - ALL FOOTAGE RE-USE MUST BE CLEARED THROUGH R&C BEFORE INCLUDING THE FOOTAGE IN YOUR VIDEO!
