Get a location release for every place you film!
DO NOT SIGN NON-VICE LOCATION RELEASES WITHOUT LEGAL REVIEWING FIRST!
- Look around the location - are there a lot of decorations, pictures, TV's playing, or other materials? If so, be careful & don’t film an interview in front of anything you do not plan to properly clear! ($$)
- Establishing shots of locations taken from an authorized or public location that we do not have a release for are OK as long as you are not saying anything negative about the location
- Always consult local laws & applicable authorities before shooting in "public" areas (like parks, sidewalks, public transportations) - you might need a permit in order to film!
- e.g., Many Las Vegas strip sidewalks are private casino property that require a location agreement
- "Hey! Look at that sculpture of George Washington! Let's film it!"
- HOLD ON! - Some monuments, sculptures, landmarks, and buildings/structures are subject to copyright...
- Always consult your Legal counsel if you have questions or concerns about filming monuments or sculptures, but here is a helpful link
- SOME LOCATIONS ARE A BIT TRICKY WHEN IT COMES TO THE CLEARANCES WE NEED IN ORDER TO FILM - NEVER FEEL BAD TO ASK ABOUT WHAT YOU’LL NEED IN ADVANCE OF FILMING:
- Casinos
- Schools
- Arcades
- Book Stores / Toy Stores
- Museums
- Arenas / sports stadiums
- Hospitals
