**NOTE FOR THUMP USERS:

ONBOARDING SHOULD BE DONE ON STAGING-CMS.VICEOPS.NET UNTIL PRODUCTION ACCESS IS GRANTED.

1. Videos are uploaded to Insider where they go through rights and clearances
2. Insider contains Required Video Metadata, which appears on front end -- Title, Description, Keywords, etc. (Full metadata glossary)
   • Insider “Video Name” will be the title pulled through to Backstage for publishing as the videos’ title, so make sure it’s correct!
   • Description and all required metadata is also front facing
3. For a record to Archive and appear in Backstage, it must have all Required Metadata, Rights and Clearances approval, and the video file uploaded w/ VQC checked. (How to Archive an Insider record)
   • R&C team will always handle their section, post prod will always tick VQC, & video team will always publish.
4. Thumbnails and screengrabs should be uploaded to “File Assets” section at the very bottom of the record. Video team will select options from there to use as the video thumbnail

1. Backstage is the CMS home for all editorial and video curation
2. Determines videos that appear on video.vice.com and on your vertical’s homepage
3. Videos that have been successfully archived in Insider appear in the CMS as a Draft
4. Videos can be available in multiple locales. Use the Locales Selector to determine what locales a video will be available in
   • If a locale is not selected, a viewer in that country will not be able to view this video

KEY NOTES

1. All fields on the Video Edit Page are localized (i.e. the same video can have different data in the local language in different locales)
2. Publish Status is NOT localized
   • Videos must have the same publish status in all locales. It cannot be published in one locale and a draft in another
   • Unpublishing a video in one locale will unpublish in ALL locales
3. The Display on VICELAND button should only be used for VICELAND shows
4. The Restrict Unknown Locales button determines if a video will be viewable in countries without a video.vice locale
5. Make sure to confirm the correct crops are being used for the LEde Image by clicking the Edit button

Featured Content Playlists

1. Should always have at least five videos in a playlist
2. Appears on video.vice homepage and at the bottom of video watch pages
3. Sample playlists
   • Best Of [Vertical]
   • Specific show (Chef’s Night Out)
   • Themed playlist (Potumentaries)
   • Single-issue or trending topics (Dakota Access Pipeline, women’s rights, etc.)

Carousel loops

1. All new loops should be added here for internationals to use
2. Carousel should be clean (no watermark, subtitles, etc.)
3. Naming convention: VERTICAL_VIDEONAME_LOOP.mov or .mp4
4. Maximum = three featured items in homepage carousel

Featured Shows

1. Video.vice.com homepages have a Recommended Show slider
2. This slider takes 25 shows at random that have the “Featured Show” tag

New videos for a vertical will also appear on a vertical’s homepage

• Will appear in the Latest feed and the latest two videos will appear in the Videos feed
