Beat Sheet or Treatment

Once you have the green light on a topic and subjects for your video, the next step is to create a thorough beat sheet or treatment. This will outline the potential shoot in a bullet pointed and organized format so that supervising producers can review before any further approval.

Know what it story is and how your sequences, interviews, b-roll etc contribute to the story. The more you know about a story going into it the better your footage will be.

• Is the shoot is inside or outside?
• Noisy or quiet?
• Passive or aggressive environment?
• 12-minute piece or five 10-minute segments?
• How much time do you have at locations and how cooperative is the guest?
• Do we need to conceal the identity of our guests or locations?
• If you want to shoot in a specific style or have a creative direction, run the idea directly to the team for approval.
