My lovely wife Jane and I have been happily married for 40 years. We have two wonderful grown children of whom we are very proud – Rich and Jane Anne. An alumnus of the University of Scranton, Rich, 38, is a paralegal with Wilson Elser Moskowitz in White Plains. Jane Anne, 36, is Office Manager with Keating Electric and Technologies in Valhalla. Both are still single.

Jane and I met on a “coffee line” at Union Carbide Corporation in New York City in June 1967. We were married at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Flushing June 8, 1968. I worked for Union Carbide 17 years in New York, Chicago and then Tarrytown, NY. Later, I spent almost 20 years at  The Westchester County Association in White Plains serving as Vice President for fifteen of the twenty years. Over the years I’ve organized events involving General Colin Powell, President Bill Clinton and Jack Welch, among others.

While it seems ages ago, I graduated from Holy Cross College in 1962. Four months later, I earned my commission in the Navy from Officers Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. Three years of active duty brought me to San Diego, Japan, Okinawa, the Philippines, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Vietnam. I fondly recall my service in the Navy as one of the finest experiences of my life.

I still play an occasional round of golf at Blue Hill with the “Best Man” at my wedding, Bill Moran. While the course is in great shape, my golf game is not. I’m still struggling to break 100.

My sisters, Ellen and Mary, and I were blessed with loving parents. Home was 113 Dexter Avenue, Pearl River. Our family was very close. While the deaths of Dad in 1996 and Mom in 2006 (at the age of 96) were extremely difficult for our family, I count my blessings every day to have had my parents alive and well for all those years.

I’m looking forward to our historic 50th reunion and reliving wonderful memories. How fortunate we were to have received a first-class education from terrific teachers at PRHS that prepared us so well for those 50 years. I shall always treasure your friendship as a member of the Class of 1958.

Kindest personal regards,

Dick Schaab
