Irene (Wolt) Syson

Irene (Wolt) Syson passed away on July 29, 2020, apparently in San Diego where she lived since 1970.  The news came a month later via Facebook posts.   Also from FB: Irene is predeceased by her husband, John, and a son, Brian.  An obituary search so far has been unsuccessful.

Irene had plans to attend our 50th reunion in 2008. She and her husband were to drive cross-country from San Diego to Pearl River in their motor home.  But she did not make it to the reunion.  Tom O'Brien notes that Irene had wanted to attend our reunions but her husband's health prevented that. She was always interested in maintaining contact with classmates and participated in our Class Facebook Group and was FB Friends with a good number of our Class.

Irene had an interesting, active life.  She writes about that in the bio-update she sent in for our 50th reunion.  You can read it here.  The photo of Irene in her bio update (shown below) is the same one that appears at the top of her FB page.

Thoughts of Irene

From Facebook comments:

Grace and Peace.

No, I didn’t know Irene was Ill either. My deepest sympathy to Irene’s Family.

I am so surprised. My condolences to her family

I am so sorry to hear this. Recent posts indicated that she was involved and enjoying some events so I'm very surprised. I know she wanted to come to our reunions but couldn't due to her husband's health issues. So sad.

I’m very sorry to hear that we’ve lost another classmate. My condolences to the family. Peg if y’all have more details please let me know. Thanks and God bless.

Sorry to learn of Irene’s passing. May she Rest in peace.

Yes, I remember Irene and her husband were driving cross country in their RV. They were on the East Coast when something serious Happened to her husband’s eyes ?? Irene and her husband made the decision to go home and be attended by their own Ophthalmologist.

I just sent Bob school photos of her in my class in 1rst and 3rd grade. He'll post them once he gets them. If she was in any of your classes maybe you can find those pictures.

From DeeDee deRoode:

Thank you so much for the news.

Checked out the photos and my gosh!  the same smile as all those years ago!

Are you doing well?  More and more I’m glad I bought into a CCRC in Florida.  They have been wonderful to us — even food shopping for us in addition to delivering dinners every night and knocking their brains to keep us amused and upbeat.  And lazy!  except, for months we had to do our own cleaning.  But…………

My best regards,

Deedee
