Joyce McGarvey '60
Joyce McGarvey long time Pearl River resident, died peacefully January 23, 2010, with her family by her side, after a courageous 3 year battle with cancer. Born April 25, 1942, Joyce grew up in Pearl River the daughter of the late Oake and Margaret Boustedt. While growing up in Pearl River, she met and married Frank, her husband of 47 years. Upon graduating from Pearl River High School in 1960, Joyce worked for 5 years at Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River. After marriage in 1963, Joyce stayed home to raise their 3 children. She returned to the work force in the mid 80's to take a job on the clerical staff of Pearl River High School where she worked till her retirement in 2002. Throughout the years Joyce kept a deep interest in painting and crafting. Her work resides in the houses of many friends, relatives and just people who admired her work. Along with her husband Frank, Joyce is survived by her sons Michael and wife Andrea and Scott and daughter Kristen and husband Kevin Miedreich. She is also survived by her sister Karen Reid of Deerfield Beach, FL and her most cherished granddaughters Casey and Kirsten McGarvey and Kayleigh, Corinne and Kelsey Miedreich. Also surviving is her brother-in -law Lenny McGarvey along with her sister-in-law Penny, wife of her recently deceased brother-in-law Dave McGarvey and many nieces and nephews. Joyce was adored by all members of her family and will be missed so very much by all of them. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday 10:00AM, January 26, 2010 at St. Margaret's Church, Pearl River. Burial will follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Nanuet, NY. Visiting will be held on Monday, January 25, 2010 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM at WymanFisher Funeral Home Inc. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Joyce's name to United Hospice of Rockland, 11 Stokum Lane, New City, NY 10956 or to the Betty Filter Scholarship Fund care of the Pearl River HS Athletic Office, 275 East Central Ave. Pearl River, NY 10965.
