This article ¨Sharing One Skin¨ by Jeanette Arm Strong, that explained the point of view from the perspective of Native Amercians of how they see the land and what the names mean to them. The first interview a girl named Laura Tohe explains what her grandma taught her as a young girl to give respect to the river and it will respect you. ALso how the sky basen places ruined the mountains from the made snow. She goes on to explain why we should call the name of something sacred to the people something else that is a white man who is dead and was not someone that is great. She explains why it is bad for one giving power and the energy of that person back from the dead. Tohe says that the reason as to why they changed the name is to ignore what happened to her people and not acknowledge that. That this only contributes to the whiteman and only heals their background and what they did. With the name that is sacred to them they know the meaning and the stories of this place, and that is something that makes it important to them and without that or respecting that it takes what makes it special to begin with.
"How Places Names Impact the Way We See the Land" by B. Article of No More Stolen Sister by Xochit Hernnadez was about the history of MMIW from colonization. In the star. He explains why so many indigenouse women have been missing so much, well looking in on it, this has been starting off since the colonization of native Americans. Starting off with Christopher Columbus's voyage to India, Along with the establishment of the United States in 1942. When settlers came along with many illnesses they found that many had brought it over finding out that most of it was on purpose. With the orders of Jeffery Amherst introducing smallpox to native Americans. They mostly had targeted the woman. So they couldn’t populate anymore. After that event the next thing with Columbus trafficking little kids and taking them to the East Coast. Afterwards the Fed had decided to make kids go to boarding schools. With the children that have gone through physical abused and sexual. This causing the next genration to convert the behavoir to the next resulting sexual abuse, and domestic voilence in the community. With going into the separation they have lost their culture and other people who were connected to each other such as other tribes. With the whole history and historical trauma that had happened mostly had to deal with the woman
The article “Gender based violence and criminal Law” by Alexandrea Loroi she explains the battered woman who fought for a law system of self defense in 1989.
She explains the process of this when a battered woman wasn’t sought as a real problem but diagnosed them. She explained how they weren’t really acknowledged at all but was something people thought was a mental illness instead. They didn’t really look into why these women were acting the way they were. Having it all tied from PTSD symptoms or just in general self defense. So when noticing why they acted upon violence is because of trauma and such as other things, again self defense. So when this was more aware or having more knowledge about the background they decided to have a law system. This system was to accept the defense no matter what as long as they were in the position of doing so. This was hard as there was victim blaming from the men in courts to really recognize the problem. With something else that had helped was discovering other people had these same symptoms but being male. So recognising that it is a normal thing to go through. Well if others are going through it.

Reading the Article ¨MMIW Indian Capital, Sor Training Address Women Safety With Self - Defense Class¨ by Alicia Breton, what they discussed about was having a training center dedicated for Indigenouse woman to learn self defense. In oklahoma there is a new Training center dedicated to Indegenouse woman in the state to learn about or take self defense courses. This was made to be free for native american women, so they can feel safe within their own community. They also showed a mamoriel display of missing and murdered indigenouse woman on a table who were local and lived in Oklahoma. Why I am predicting they are having a training center for indigenouse is because that around 400 missing and murdered indigenouse women in Oklahoma, and so far it is growing. There are many opinions on this and why they think it is important for them and their own communities to have self defense classes, and some professionals who work with . One of them being RedBone Arabelo she had stated “ Sometimes they don’t know their traumaś, they don´t come back from that situation so we may not just lose a love one, we may lose a whole family, on a mental concept.¨. Another opinion within the article about self defense from a person who works in the SOR training had said ¨self defense is important and you should always keep your head on a swivel¨
The “Bolivia’s Aymara Train to Fight Domestic violence” latest news by WION shows what the Bolivia women go through and why they are going to self defense classes. From one perspective her name is Lucretia , an Indegenouse woman who was a survivor from domestic violence. After facing it so many times she wanted to do something about it, this is what she had to say for herself “ I suffered a lot. That is why I am now practicing. Self defense. What is self defense practice for, it is to defend myself from the kicks in the face from the fist that hit me, the eyes until they almost exploded. Men are not afraid of hitting women; they don’t think that by hitting and mistreating us, they hurt us and wound us physically. That is why we women live in great fear. I have suffered a lot of physical and psychological abuse since I was a child”. It was identified that forty eight cases of homicide happen this year alone and perpetrators not being held accountable. With the issues that they happen to face, the program of “The Warm Project” continues training Taekwondo to the cities of La Paz and El Alto for free.

Reading “Do Russian Women Have the Right to Self Defense Against Domestic Violence” by Dayton Mari Daviton He explained the criminal cases that have been happening In russia from the women who are victims of domestic violence. He explained that recently the women have been victims, but instead of being treated like one. When being testified through on their behalf of explaining their experience they are instead being charged with injuring and murdering the men who caused their experience to happen. He then explains within the article it reads “The law enforcement do not consider domestic violence to be a way where they can’t be changed with murder or grievous bodily injuries”.
My thought process of reading this was that it was shocking to hear what happened and sad that women in Russia have to go through this. I felt that maybe they would consider hearing their part of their side of the story and be more serious about the issue but instead treating them like they were criminals too also kind of made me angry for them because they are grown men who do this and they are all adults but instead they all pick sides. I also felt bad because it was just looked over and that was something that I wish not to experience. In the end it made me grateful that I live in the U.S too that we have a freedom to speak and have someone take us seriously as well.
Watching the South Morning Post video of “Chinese Woman Turn to Self Defense Classes after a Brutal Attack on the Female Diners in Tangshan” talked about an event when four women in Tangshan Hebei Province were being attacked by a group of men and getting targeted outside of the restaurant as well. This happened around June 2022. After this had happened more women turned to classes. A coach named Tao Tingwu of Jiufu Boxing who was interviewed about this said “After the tangshan attack people across china feel their living environment may not be as safe as they imagined, We've seen brawls, but the Tangshan attack really shocked us, the way they beat these woman was far beyond our bottom line our membership number has greatly increased, after tangshan attack especially for women between 20 - 30 years old”. Another lady who works as the office worker has said “I've talked to many of my girlfriends and found that nearly every girl had experienced some form of assault.”
This made me think how could anyone do this and not even feel bad or stop to think about what they are doing and how bad they are hurting people. I felt scared for those women in Tangshan because I wouldn’t know what to do if there was a large group of men beating up me or someone I know and not knowing what to do in that event. Of course it happens and knowing that a lot turns to self defense is something inspiring but seems like there is no other way to really protect yourself unless you have to be taught to do it.
The article “ Woman in Poland are Getting Free Self Defense Lessons' ' by Sayin Haynes. He explained the Polish government launching a way where women can learn self defense within their own country for free. The whole idea was led by Polish army soldiers. The project was aimed for women who were eighteen years of age and above. It was also read on the news of it all “women who want to learn and develop skills and behavior in various situations that threaten their life or health especially arising from physical threats against them”. Also within a month ago it was read that “Poland sheived a controversial abortion bill following popular protest and strikes from women across the country”
Reading this I thought it was pretty cool that they gave the woman help to learn self defense but for some reason made me question as to why. I really don't know why I was questioning the help- because for some reason why so much importance is given to giving women self defense class and having Poland's army being the lead. Just doesn't sit well with me but after hearing about the bill that was going to be passed about banning abortion stopped because of protest then maybe it’s because the women are speaking up and getting what they deserve.
