this year and next year i will be focusing my topic about how native American petroglyphs conservation i am still myself learning and how I choose this was really interesting
I would not say I relate to this in some ways, it's way different from my family. We don't talk about many things we just don't say much to each other. We do know what to do in our community my family when it comes to introducing ourselves and how the okanagan people introduce themselves “ This is my clan, this is my people, theses are the people where i came from” that is something that my grandpa Frank would say when we meet different people or natives outside of anywhere where we go.
“ Sharing one skin” by Jeanette armstrong , she talks about how and where she and her people came from and then where she got her name from talking about where the people came from their tribe os the okanagan tribe she talks about her family alot of how they lived in the everyday life and traditional hearing.
Researchers discover the oldest Petroglyphs in North America
Researchers in western Nevada have discovered a cave petroglyph in Winnemucca lake researcher and guard student dug up the cave and found out its known to between 10,5000 -14,800 years old. Many of the people thought it was just there to be there but without the meaning of why it was there students from Colorado Benson decided to look more into the cave painting and frond more things out about the water their too they gather evidence and still found out that it was from while ago and why this was important to the people of Western Nevada .
My connection throughout this article is that it was very interesting I feel like as I go deeper into my topic I keep finding more things about petroglyphs and the meaning and how old they are is something that I'm interested in that its not boring to me anymore. I like this and where this is going from New Mexico and all around the world there are many different things that contact inside my shp.

Petroglyph in the U.S belonging to native tribes all over the world first of all these people such as tourist or any other such as people of different races are going on these trails and just looking at them with taking pictures and posting it on social media but the terrible thing is that its not being use properly making fun of rock art it's just “rock art has no meaning” many Indigenous people from US took this as an opportunity to educated those people. Saginaw Chippewa Indian tribe stated “our ancestors lived in this area for thousands of years ago” people should know the truth behind rock art it's not even just rock art it's about our ancestors that lived here since before 500 AD going back to the past many people in that time didn't have paper or pencils to write down things that would be a different story today but it's about what their stories were about and how survived and how their lifestyle was. Many people who created petroglyphs no longer live today. Not many Native tribes have a specific ruling on petroglyphs and petroglyphs only some of them do depends on the tribes but only a few of them have a listing on what is appropriate or not tribes from Saginaw Chippewa indian tribe , The Ziibiwing , The Anishinabek Nation and Santa Clara Pueblo all have a specific ruling on petroglyphs.
My connection to this article is based on learning more about tribes and nations that have petroglyphs and how they are educating people on what the rock art really means and these tribes are doing their best on protecting them because of their ancestors of their living compared to now it's a good source and this has helped me get a lot of knowledge of my topic I found some really badass information and can't wait to explore my research. I also believe that future generations should know the history of petrophlys and pottery together, not the latest timing because of the pandemic and stuff like that.
Mainly white races make big deals and its hard to defend our groups because its like they all come from different places but they should know our history because without these siting we wouldn't know what our ancestors did this is how they told their stories so they can pass on generations such me.

Rock Art is one of the most unbreakable treasures in the United States and has been around for over millions of years. In the article "Ancient Rock Art in Utah Is Being Destroyed By Target Shooters” it starts off by saying rock art is being threatened by acid rain, fungus and people shooting paint cans at the petroglyphs. According to The Salt Lake Tribune, rock art is being targeted with bullet holes and slopped from careless tourists. "If you take paint off, the patina comes off and the rock art is gone,'' says Matt Sheehan, an Archaeologist from the Bureau of Land Management. Utah has set up a law that prohibits firing and has set up that if people are caught, they will face fines and even jail time.
After reading this article, it makes me think "Why are people doing this?” I am glad that they are getting fines and jail time because these are prehistorical and the people don't seem to understand. I hope New Mexico does the same thing for the petroglyphs here.

In this article from Smithsonian Magazine it explains how racist vandalism was put on rock art is Utah. Vandals wrote white power and sexual vulgarities on a rock known as "Birthing Rock.” Birthing rock has images of a woman giving birth, bear tracks, and bighorn sheep. What the vandals wrote was considered very disturbing. Angelo Baca, an anthropologist from New York University, stated, "The vandalism is another act of all-too prevalent violence against Native women."
I agree with Mr. Baca and feel that it's disgusting and disturbing to think of how people think of Native women and why it's just indigenous women that go missing every year . . The violence that has happened to Native women in real life affects indigenous cultures. They should be fined by the tribal government.
