The source was about an Okanagan woman named Jeannette Armstrong and her culture’s way of being a healthy human. Although she comes from two different types of Okanagan, river indian on her mother’s side and mountain indian on her father’s side, both sides’ views on health are identical. Four capacities of self meaning four values, the physical self valuing the earth like our bodies, the emotional self valuing the ability to make connections, the thinking intellectual self represented as a spark, bright but dangerous, and the spirit selfs binds them together making it the important self. Land is very important for the Okanagan people, for everything seems to rely on it such as their language, spirits, knowledge, and I'm probably forgetting more. Sadly Janette fears that technology is making people unable to make connections, therefore destroying the ways of a healthy human.

The article explains how the names for places affect it and people. Locations with meaning and story can be overwritten by names that devalue them or just flat out give them a bad reputation. It is believed that sacred sites hold a mythic layer of significance. Over writing sacred places’ names with different info disrupts connections to mythic beings “still existing beyond our human realm”. In Dine culture, using the names of dead people will keep them from the afterlife unless they give permission while they’re still alive. Using the names of military men to name sacred places can bring back trauma and keep it fresh. It is important for those sacred names to stay so the stories that came with it can live on.

My topic is about the pros and cons of college and the author of this article Peter Harrison tells us the long history of American colleges and their origins. Starting in the 1630s, Universities were meant to educate clerics so that future ministries weren’t run by idiots. When religion started to die down the next main reason people went to college was because of the power, reputation, and civic leadership that came with going. During Thomas Jefferson’s presidency, he had a great impact on education, detaching further from religious ties, offering public education, and established UVA which “would educate the cream of the crop, the people who were meant to be community leaders”. During the great depression was when prices really rose for renowned institutions while other forms of higher education stayed the same, it was also when people viewed higher education rather than specific skills respectfully. It was after WWII when colleges and the US government started getting friendly. “While course enrollment decreased somewhat during the war, many institutions’ research centers became fertile grounds for military innovations”. It wasn’t until the 2000s when student loans started overpassing credit card debt in the US, giving us our modern day depiction of college.

This article answers the questions about the history of college prices around the late 1900s. The article gives us dates at which the prices started changing for tuitions. Also reasons why prices started changing in the first place. Although the article does start leaning out of college history questions and more to more standard college questions.

This video explains the origins of universities before colonization. It all started in Medieval Europe, ce500-1400. Most forms of knowledge were studied by the rich and nobles who took interest in them. Universities came about before the black plague. In 1100- mid 1300, population growth and urbanization led to universities, “There were more secular conflicts, so they needed more lawyers. There were more religious arguments, so they needed more theologians. And there were more people-and more were sick!- so they needed more physicians'' (6:04). Colleges at the time made you swear a christian oath. “They could teach and research what they wanted to, as long as it was vaguely catholic enough” (7:34). You couldn’t teach certain things from Greek philosophies that rivaled christian views. But it actually backfired on them by making medieval thinkers look beyond their masters. This made thinkers wanna study nature with science.

Jessica Dickler’s article “Is college really worth it? Here’s why it’s so hard to figure out the return on investment” talks about how college enrollment is starting to go down and why. In two years college enrollment has dropped five point one percent, a one million out of about twenty-one million loss. While a bachelor’s degree earns more than just a highschool diploma, several areas of study don’t pay off. Kevin Miller, the Bipartisan policy center’s associate director of higher education states that “The student loan crisis makes it clear that there’s a lot of money at stake, If there’s something we can do to make it less likely someone will go into debt for a useless credential, we should be doing that”. The article goes on to state that we need to understand the value of a degree before spending a lot of time and money obtaining one. The president of Greenberg Educational Group, Eric Greenberg states that there are more factors into determining the value of higher education “Emotional well-being and the quality of life should also be taken into account along with the cost, academic offerings, job placement, alumni networks and other pre professional services. One of the new realities is that return on investment is much more broadly defined now than it ever has been”. In the end, the return on investment of higher education has a lot of meanings since many people want different things from college.

The article talks about the fears of career change and how to deal with them. The list ranges from fear of failure to fear of making the wrong choice. The solution to these problems are mostly gaining knowledge of the fears and doing research of your desired path. In the end, this is a common problem with multiple solutions.

Sharon Belden Castonguay talks about how self awareness influences career decisions. In the beginning she states that 87% of employees world wide are not engaged at work. Usually because people focus on money rather than their passions. A.I. are more rational than humans because most humans can’t make decisions, but can follow passions and can be aware of their identities rather than A.I. Only you can choose your identity, a machine can’t.

Deciding on a career and the schooling you need to get that career is too much of a big decision a 17-year old has to make. The rush to get good grades and the lack of time to consider all your options can rush young students’ decisions. You might put all your time and effort into going to a university and getting good grades for a career you were rushed into choosing and might regret. Even then you can be overwhelmed by all the options, mixing the rush for good grades can make the situation worse. In the end the education and recruitment system needs to give young students the space and time to make these decisions.

The’re many problems a college student will face when it’s time to pick a career. One of them being a lack of guidance which can limit all their possible options. Financial conditions also play a part when students fear the college expenses or don’t know about financial aid. In order to pay the bills students will pick the first job they see that they may not like in the long run. Sometimes students who are lost will choose whatever path other people are choosing, simply because they know someone else who is doing it. Trying to avoid failures will make it more difficult to find the life you want, fearing if they chose a path to a job that doesn’t pay well or focuses too much on passion. Trying new things, meeting new people, joining clubs is recommended to do while you’re in college since it’s one of the rare times you’ll be able to do it in your life. It’s important to know your dream jobs will require a little bit of extra education, improve your skills and get the qualifications to get a higher position. It is up to you to plan ahead, work with people like guidance counselors to help you.

To find a job in Japan, it is pretty essential to learn the language. The language is difficult to learn and speak whether it be casual or business conversation. The process of job hunting is very difficult as you must apply to a lot more companies. Even as a Japanese university student, it is recommended to start applying for jobs one year before graduation. For some companies you’ll have to learn the culture as some companies are more traditional than others. As a foreigner you’re already at a disadvantage since most companies will hire a fluent Japanese speaker rather than an okay speaker.

For my action plan I used my skills in digital art to design posters that would advertise the services of College & Career Plaza. They are a non-profit organization that helps students figure out a plan after high school. On the posters I had included their website for students to look up.
