The first article was about other people's perspectives on sharing one's skin. The other article talks about how names impacted our landscapes on others. The article talks about how and where the mother is from and the Columbia River system. One of the paragraphs of the article, talks and describes the land, and how the river flowed. When they are brought into the world they’re basically family and part of a community, nothing can isolate the 2 of these things. Land and also is their kind of safe place. It talked about the landform which had the old life formed. Everything they do or say affects the earth because they are the hands of the spirit.
The second article talked about how names impacted the way we see landscapes. This was an interesting article because I thought that they talked about how their mountains were very sacred and what it means to them and how they didn't want anything getting between them and polluting them. They also mentioned some words in Dine which they would call it because in nations or pueblos, we have a name for everything and what is there. “San Francisco Peaks se from the underworld” stood out to me because the mountains were not always there; they were formed in a way that they rose from the underworld and that they respected for their beauty, also their strengths. The grandma also mentioned that you can't do anything you want because everything around you has a spirit and by doing what you want, you harm the spirit in a way where it can actually die.

These two articles that I have read, I connected to these because of where I come from. The first article represents where I come from. It also talks about who you are and it just goes on like us. We talk and introduce ourselves in the language that we were brought up in. Like me, I'm half Native American and fully Mexican but knowing that I’m native I feel proud. The second article also relates to me because the mountains are very sacred to me. We do our hunting, fishing, and our traditional things, Over the years the mountains have gotten affected due to the fires that have happened around us. The mountains hold a very important meaning to me and it's just a beautiful place to be. The air is very fresh, you can take a cruise up there and clear your mind and talk to your ancestors and their spirits.
Reasearch Log 2: Connects Through History
According to the article Homeland Security announced that measures have been aimed at reducing the number of immigrants. They are reducing it because there are too many immigrants arriving in the South and there are just too many people. There was an arrangement that actually happened and the arrangement was to send immigrants back across the border because so many immigrants were coming into the United States. After they sent so many immigrants across the border the governors of Texas and Arizona decided to also do the same thing and send immigrants back across the border. They have been sending all the immigrants back but it’s been difficult because the government has not allowed their own immigrants to basically go back home.
I understand that the U.S. is trying to keep the Venezuelans from trying to cross the border. It’s not just Venezuelans that are trying to cross the border, it's also many other countries. What the U.S. needs to understand is that they’re going to keep trying until they cross that border. All these people that cross the border are just trying to make a better life for themselves and their families. The connection that I have from this is that my grandma crossed the border but she crossed it in the worst way. Hearing everything that she has told me and what people are capable of doing to get across the border is just sad and sometimes very disturbing. It’s amazing how they can have a house in their country but they leave it and come here with literally nothing they have to start brand new.
According to the article in September 2022, there was a huge shooting. The people responsible for this shooting drove 10 to 25 miles away from the Mexico border and opened fire on the group of migrants that were just getting water along the road. One man was shot and killed and there was a woman that took a gunshot wound to the stomach. It’s crazy to think that innocent immigrants get shot by people that want to do wrong. There can be children, babies, and parents or families getting shot by people that want to do wrong. All the migrants are just trying to rest and get water because they have been walking for miles and they have been walking in the worst conditions so they need to rest and gain their energy so that they can keep going.
After reading and understanding this article it is sad to see that white people are just shooting migrants. Migrants don’t do anything, they just mind their business trying to survive but in this world, there will always be people doing bad things. I honestly believe that there should be a security group keeping an eye on these migrants but the security would have to be honest people there are many people who are corrupt. Instead of hurting people and killing so many people they should go and give food, water, and supplies to the migrants that are having to walk so far. The connection with this article is sad to read because people shouldn't just be killing other people because of how they look, or what their ethnicity is. We should all come together as one especially with everything going on in the world.
How U.S. Immigration policy is pushing migrants to take more dangeourous routes
According to the video I watched there was a huge investigation going on. It both mentioned that the U.S. and Mexico are working together and trying to investigate the deadliest human smuggling case in modern U.S. history. There was a tractor truck that was containing 51 people, the truck was abandoned on the outskirts of San Antonio Texas. When they found the truck they saw that the back door was a little bit open. What they didn’t know was that the truck had 51 people in it. When they opened the back of the truck all the way they saw that there were people piled on top of each other. There were also bodies found on the side of the road, and children were rushed to the hospital. All 51 people were suffering from heat stroke, and heat exhaustion and they had no water. The truck was supposed to have an A/C but it wasn’t there. There were twenty-two citizens of Mexico, seven from Guatemala, and two from Honduras. The president of Mexico got to speak and he mentioned that the reason why these things happen is that there is a lack of controls at the border between Mexico and the United States. The migrants take a lot of risks to just get into the United States. Approximately 650 migrants have already died because of the decision to cross the U.S. border. The news mentioned that 2022 is only going to get worse.
Watching this video and hearing that the people will take any risk, I believe that because my Grandma took the risk and crossed the border. Migrants have risked their lives to come to the United States only to die or get caught and sent back to Mexico or wherever they come from. Children are being dragged with their families as well and sometimes it doesn’t go so well, the families get caught and the children have to go with border patrol and more likely they get sent alone. I believe that there is another way for migrants to get into the United States but then again some of them don’t have papers so of course they will take any risk. It makes me think, who knows how many more bodies there are in the deserts when they walk all those miles to get to the border, they’re just left there to disintegrate.
As the whole world knows of the virus COVID-19, it impacted the world but also the people. On October 21, 2021 the president of the United states issued bans and also implemented COVID-19 vaccinations requirements for the travelers that were flying. The travelers had to be fully vaccinated, they even had to prove that they were. For the unvaccinated people they had to test negative for COVID-19 even if they are U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, foreign nationals travelers, immigrant or nonimmigrant they still needed to test negative. As for the children between the ages 2 and 17 it was required for them to take a pre-departure test, if they weren't fully vaccinated the adult of the child needed to show proof of the negative test that their child took.
COVID-19 impacted a lot of our lives, I know for me in fact it really turned my whole world around because my family and I were planning trips to go to California one minute and the next we couldn't go because of the virus and how bad it was spreading. I know it only didn’t affect me but it affected the immigrants as well especially if they had family across the border. For vaccinations I know that there were a lot of people that were against getting vaccinated but after hearing that they couldn't go to work or school many people started pushing to get the vaccine. The people in the United States found it hard for them to not see their families because my grandma couldn't see her mom, sisters who were living in California. Many people also lost family members due to COVID-19 not only due to the virus but people were also dying from the vaccine. They were fine one minute and the next they passed away from the vaccine and the families were very concerned.

According to the article, Biden accepted the resignation of U.S. customs and border protection commissioner Chris Magnus. The white house press secretary Karine Jean- Pierre was the one that confirmed the resignation from Magnus. Chris Magnus responded to many records of migrants along the U.S. Mexico border. DHS had a major concern about Magnus and his ability to lead the CBP but also the senior department cited Magnus' fraught relationship with the Boarder Portal. There was an interview and Magnus defended his leadership. In the end they thanked Chris Magnus for his service and wished him well.
While I was reading the article I understood that we have to appreciate the people that work for the borders. The reason why we must appreciate them is because they go through a lot while working for the borders. We might not think that it's a dangerous job but in reality they see things that we haven't seen. I know that when my dad worked as a cop he saw many things that he still hasn’t told me yet and I really want to know but I understand why he hasn’t told me. We always have to appreciate someone when they give their service to the job that they worked for and let them know that they are appreciated.
While listening to the video it gives information about immigration people. It was interesting to hear what the speaker had to say and the reason why I say that is because in the beginning of the video, the speaker talks about if too many immigrants come to the United States the American people are going to lose their lives. The speaker also mentioned that many people talk about the immigration in a negative way instead of in a positive way. The reason why all the immigration people want to come to the United States is because they feel like they can make a better life over here on this side. The immigration people know that they won’t go far in life if they stay where they’re at. They take any risk and come to the United States to make their lives better.
We all know that immigration people want to make a better life for themselves and if they have kids they want their kids to have a better life too, so of course they do come to the United States. What really confuses me is that the American people are saying that if the Mexicans come to this side that their lives will be ruined. I feel like the Mexicans will take over because they will find jobs that they can actually do that the white people can’t. Mexico is a hard place to grow up. They don’t have much but they make it work in amazing ways. It's not just in Mexico, I mean basically wherever immigration people are they’re having a hard life but they try their hardest to make a life for themselves.

Action Plan 1
(Sabelskya. "Volunteer women giving food packs to homeless man cartoon)
(Elenabs. "Food Donation")
My action plan was supposed to happen on November 12, 2022. The people that were supposed to be involved were the homeless people in the shelter mainly the immigrants. I was planning to gather food and take it to the homeless shelter located in Española, New Mexico also known as Pathways Shelter. I wanted to give people the food but unfortunately, I couldn't do this because I got sent home Friday afternoon due to close contact and because I wasn’t updated with my booster shot. I planned this because giving back is a huge thing in my family and I wanted to give back to the immigrants that are in my hometown. My outcome of this idea was to show that immigrants are important and that the little things matter, I also feel like they would have been appreciated of this small jester. In conclusion, I wanted to do this small gesture not only would it be a blessing for the needy but it would help them tremendously.
Action Plan 2: Her Journey
(Arellano,Angel,Personal Photo 3.2.23)
My action was on Thursday March 3, 2023. I interviewed my grandma Maria Arellano, I asked her about her journey about coming into the U.S. and I also asked her some personal questions. I showed a video of my grandma talking about her experience crossing here into the U.S and she told her story about everything she went through. My action took place here at the Santa Fe Indian School in Ms. Gordons classroom. I choose this action plan due to the fact that my grandma is Mexican, so I wanted to interview her and let other people know her story. The way that I planned this action plan was letting my grandma know that I wanted people to hear her story and to let people know that Immigration is an very important topic.
