“ SHARING ONE SKIN”

The Okanagan Community is a very sacred community. They like to hold high values in their culture. “ We don't recognize the Land/Language, we don’t have an Identity”. Being an Okanagan tribal member you have to understand that. You have to understand that family and culture are everything, that is what keeps the community together and how the Okanagan people are so strong. Making sure you’re not only strong for the community but having a strong mindset, and a very balanced life. The Okanagan people have a powerful life form which is the Four Capacities of Self. First being the physical self. The physical self, the self that depends entirely on the parts of us beyond the skin. Next is the emotional self, which connects to the other parts of our larger selves around us. The third thinking intellectual self, which is the memory. The last and final element is the spiritual self. In order to have this one, all the other capacities have to fuse together.

When you look at a map and see the names of mountains and landscapes and you see “ waterfall creek” You wanna go there. The more interesting name, makes you wanna go there. Not only are there cool names but there are some disturbing ones. Not only that but mountains on Indian land have like white people's names to it. It's disturbing that those are lands and we should be able to change names and stuff.

Jb White a New Mexico Basketball star, life has been taken too early. He was at a party and had some conflict with some other teenager named Estevan Montaya pulled out a gun and shot Jb. Jb was an absolute star, He took the opposite path from other teens in Santa Fe New Mexico. The teenager Estevan was drinking that night and wanted to fight JB outside and right before they were gonna fight he pulled the trigger . I remember watching JB and wanting to be just like him. Thinking he was gonna make New Mexico Famous. Finding out he passed really hurt and finding out it was a teenager who killed him made it way worse. This relates to my topic because a teenager who was drinking killed a basketball star and is now sentenced to life in person with 1st degree murder.

Ivan was gonna be a music artist and already had some songs out. By the age of 17 he had passed away due to “gang conflict”.
"Athlete Talks About Using Performance-enhancing Drugs"
Coriz, Andre January, 2020
The video is talking about how they are a top sports school and how none of the students use drugs to help their game improve. All their athletes are pure muscle. In the weight room all year long, having summer programs and year round sports. They talked about how like what's the purpose of using drugs when you can get better without them. I never used drugs to improve my game. Seeing all these athletes getting caught cheating and using drugs it's like wow. My muscles are all pure and how I'm a year around sports guy and how I don’t have time to do those kinds of things.
Micheal Phelps on Addiction and Recovery.

Phelps was struggling with something much darker than he had originally been willing to admit. This article says a lot. Micheal Phelps is like one of the top athletes in the world and I look up to him and all he does. He works and does nothing but to improve his game in swimming. He's always giving back and trying to make the world better. When this news struck the world it probably hit a lot of kids that he is an addict, and drunk. A very good athlete gets caught drinking and driving and when a person who people look up to does something like that it's like sending a message that it's alright for us to be doing that.

After being one of the one of the best running backs the game of football has ever seen, Williams decided to walk away from the game, while many still considered him one of the better running backs in the NFL. “I had the same feeling that everyone did when they first started playing, I wanted to make it to the NFL and when I did, I realized it wasn’t what I thought it was.” Williams added “I wanted to have a platform, but it felt like I was being told to shut up and run the ball.” As time went on, Williams felt more and more that the sport was draining him. It got to the point where he didn’t even want to be in the locker room because he felt so uncomfortable being there. “I felt like something was wrong with me because I had the best job in the world, but it got to a point where I would walk into the locker room and all I wanted to do was put a towel over my head, I didn’t want to be there.” Williams eventually decided to walk away from the game and what helped him cope with what he was experiencing mentally was cannabis. This cannabis use then led him to starting his own brand called "Highsman." This allowed him to impact others in hopes to change the wide opinion on cannabis.

On Wednesday Nov 9, SFIS students got the chance to participate in my SHP which was open gym and a few rounds of knock out. I used the SFIS gym and weight room to host an open gym.

We played Knock out and let people lift weights. In this, instead of being stuck in a room, doing something drug related they are at the gym getting the gains and shots up.
