“Dress Code” In this article I read about how they have all these different rules about dress codes and how they handle it when someone is not in dress code or is at school that they aint supposed to be wearing. The dress code rules are created by the school districts and employers to promote learning, safety, and image. Why are they worried about something that they were not at school for? The Supreme Court has never directly addressed school dress codes, if he did say anything, what is the whole reason for us to follow the dress codes at our schools? That the decision upheld students' right to express themselves through certain items they wear, this really makes a point about this whole dress code thing that whatever we wear expresses us but at the schools they don't let the students express themselves at all. There are some pros and cons to dress codes and the fact that uniform or dress code makes it more difficult to identify distressed students, who may reveal symptoms of psychological disorders by wearing unusual clothing. They also point out that teachers often waste the first minutes of class trying to determine which of their students who are in uniform have waivers and which are violating the code. That the uniform or dress code is much less important than most other factors, or even that uniform lower test scores. The dress code is written clearly, is not excessive or onerous, is applied in a consistent fashion, and does not obviously discriminate on the basis of race, sex, religion, and perhaps ethnicity. A dress code that discriminated on the basis of gender would be struck down.

“When The School Dress Code Discriminates” most girls at schools, the discipline they give to most of the students that are not in the dress code. It continues to unfairly target girls and students of color at schools also. In this article “ I read it talks about how they don't allow students of color or the girls to wear what they want all because they think that girl bodies are distracting for the boys when they are in class. The discipline they give to the kid with holes in their pants is asking students to put duct tape over the holes in their jeans, even suspending a student for a skirt that was too short, or sending a student to the office for not wearing a bra. Nowadays it is rare or impossible to find clothes that comply with the dress code. Most people that went to a school with a dress code struggled but now her daughter is going through the same thing, having these dress codes can really make you change people into someone there not. Also, shopping for a girl is very difficult because all girls love to wear crop top tank tops or shorts, leggings and jeans with holes. Especially when you're coming from a big family it is hard to keep up with shopping for clothes. “We want our kids to feel comfortable when they come to school”, this is what I want for me and my classmates or everyone in the school to feel comfortable when coming to school.

In this youtube video I watched it shows and talks about the dress code that they can't wear at school. There was a young lady that went to school with a short on and spaghetti strap shirt and the principal saw her outfit and got after her and she was confused on why she was mad, and she got a write up for that day and the next day she saw here again and this time she was wearing a crop top and the principle told her she couldn't wear that because her shoulders were a distraction for boys. So these two boys heard what they were talking about and they said that nothing is distracting. She got her second write up and she was getting tired of this whole dress code thing. So the next day she came back with papers because she did a whole research on dress code. The principal walks into the cafeteria and says she had announcements to make and she walks in with a whole tv giving the kids a presentation on dress code. After she was done one of the girls said that her friend that kept getting suspended did research and the principal was upset because these young lady’s were right and all they wanted to do was have equal rights for both boys and girls at school because their dress code doesn't really apply to the boys at school. So the young lady got suspended from school just because of what she was wearing to school. So her friends made a plan about them going to school with shorts, crop tops, skirts, muscle shirts when the superintendent and so they did and that day they had kids outside with signs about dress code. Suspended walked in the door asking what was going on and she saw girls walking out with shorts on and spaghetti strap shirts and she told them she was going to write them all up and the superintendent was confused on why she was going that. So that day the superintendent told the principal that they dropped the dress code, and so their friend got to come back and they took off her suspension so it won't affect her when she goes to college.
Research Log 3:
In this article “Lawsuits, complaints and protests are upending sexist school dress codes”, I read about a girl named Riley who went to a school where grades 10th grade and up could wear anything they wanted to school but 9th graders could. Riley didn't like being in the 9th grader because she had a dress code she had to go by and when she was in high school she was telling everyone she liked it only because she got to wear what she wanted to school. She finally felt comfortable going to school because she wore what she wanted. Most schools are like this just like here at the Indian School middle schoolers 7 and 8th graders are to follow the dress code but when you come to the high school side you don't always have to wear collar shirts to school. They are making all these different rules that cause so much stress and trouble because now girls never wanted to come to school because they don't get to wear what they want to school. They suspend girls a lot just because of what we wear. Why does it matter if we only come to school to learn and get educated not to get judged on what we wear to school only because of what we wear. As the years kept going on there were so many different types of dress codes that started popping up and the majority of the gender was girls. Riley had picture day at school and she wore something she felt cute in and something that she wanted to wear but as the yearbook picture came out they marked out her shirt the only thing that was showing was her head.
In this video I watched “ Middle school students asked to change clothes for violating dress code policy”. In this video it talks about how the school leader didn't let her return to class because she was wearing a collar dress with white tights and pants with boots. She was not allowed to return back to class because she changed her outfit. Having these different excuses like having to “measure her dress with a ruler” , as they were measuring her they told her it was violating the dress code policy. She was so happy that she was going to show off her new dress her mom just bought her but instead she felt uncomfortable. As the middle school mothers posted a picture of what her daughter was wearing to school but got told she was violating dress code rules. There were other people that commented on her post saying that the mother was right she's not breaking any dress code rules. They also went around showing the picture of the girl asking random people and teens if that was okay for school and everyone said yes even the one of the ladies said “she looks like she is finding her style”.
“New York City High School Dress Code Crackdown”
Photo 10:
In the first article “New York City High School Dress Code Crackdown”. I read about how the school reported about 200 students that got sent home over the dress code during the first two weeks of the school year . There were some items that they listed that are not permitted to be worn in school, which are hats, halter tops, sunglasses, and hooded sweatshirts that can't be worn to school. 90 percent of the students they had gotten sent home were girls, they forced them to either cover up or wait in the school auditorium until a parent arrived with appropriate attire. They even have the administrators pulling students out of the hallway because of what they were wearing, others were forced to wait while a parent was called. If the parents were at work or unreachable they were required to wear school logo gym shorts and a T-shirt that was never your size or choice. Regretless of what some students get they may not feel comfortable at all and it would be harder for them to focus because they are not comfortable with what they were given. Talks about how they are trying to teach the students and prepare them for college and the workforce. “Dressing for success applies not only to the workplace, but also to school”.
The Sexism of School Dress Codes
Photo 11:
In the second article “The Sexism of School Dress Codes” I read about how they noticed a major change in the ways the school in New York treated males and females. All the students noticed that not once have they seen a male being dress coded especially when they are wearing a muscle shirt. The girls in the school also noticed the amount of girls losing their self confidence. Especially body shaming these girls about their body, even blaming them for sexual harassment. It also depends on the administration and school board, some places are more relaxed while others take a hard line. All the time these girls get dress-coded or get told that you can't wear this you can't wear that, the dress code makes girls feel self-conscious, ashamed, and uncomfortable in their own bodies and not even want to come to school at all anymore. “Protecting themselves from unwanted attention. How these students in the article make a point, “These are not girls who are battling for the right to come to school in their bikinis.

Second Floor girls, all different grade levels
Gave them a presentation on how the dress codes nowadays are changing
At the end had them answer some questions for me
They all want to see a change by the time the school year starts again.
