The first article “Sharing One Skin” is written by Jeanette Armstrong who is Okanagan, and she talks about her people. The first thing Jeanette talks about is who she is and where she is from which relates to our topic we are learning in my class of SHP. The Okanagan people are very interesting, and I can relate to their ways by connecting themselves to the Earth in whatever they do.

The second article “How place names impact the way we see landscape” is very interesting and it kind of threw me off how it was written but I overall understood most of it. The article talks about “place names and the stories behind them define how we perceive and connect to landscape.” That’s basically what the article talks about and how some tribes like the Dine or Navajo connect to their land.

(“Social Media Platforms Are Evolving to Refine User Experience and Self-Expression.”)
The first article I found talks about the rise of social media and how it played a critical role in the development of Content Creation. The algorithms throughout social media promote content and getting your creations to a wider and broader audience. Content marketing is mentioned in this article and talks about new platforms like Tik Tok is the new wave for content marketing. You see content creators collaborate with brands and will promote their products through social media to earn money for themselves. Who knows what content marketing and creating can become whether that’s with more platforms or brands reaching out to content creators.

("Business-to-Business Integrated Marketing Communications")
The second article I researched was about the benefits of content marketing/creating. First, we talk about how it generates value for your business over time and that’s important if you are pursuing content marketing. You posting videos and being consistent shows that you can be reliable and trusted with brands that want to sponsor you. Next, it cultivates an engaged target audience which grows your business or channel. Targeting an audience for example the gaming community will help you and put your name out there for people to see and enjoy your content.

I found this video/podcast of two men talking about content creation and relating it to way back in the past when humans started to create things. They talked about how the Egyptians created the Pyramids and how that is content creation today but in the past. A lot of artwork was mentioned as well from other traditional cultures and how people started to create a lot of amazing things. At the end of the podcast they go back to present time and talk about some social media and the internet that we use today to create content. I really enjoyed how they went back into the past then into the present about content creation. It really helped me understand the broader picture of content creation in general.
The Entire History of Human Content Creation (feat. Stefan Milo) - YouTube
The First Article I found on the current state of my topic talks about the industry of content creation. I read about branding and companies in the article targeting their audience with different methods. These methods that promote their company are virtual reality, 360 videos, live or traditional videos. In the Article it also mentions what people are looking for and what platforms offer that sort of content information. For example, “Many of today’s brands are too focused on a “lights, camera, action” approach to content, when the true focus should be getting to the heart of people and what truly moves them to act, engage and be loyal to a brand.”

The second article I found researching for my topic is an addiction to social media. In the article it talks about YouTube and other social media platforms being addicting to not just you but many other people. YouTube being one of the biggest social media platforms, has almost everything you need to entertain yourself for a couple hours. There is a theory going around with how social media platforms’ algorithms are placed into your phone while using the application. You know the kind of stuff you find interesting, find entertaining, and find educational.

My last piece of research I found was a YouTube video on ADDICTIVE ALGORITHMS and I have to say that everything the man explains in his video is true. We hear about people being zombies and wanting to spend time on their phone all day. Another thing is people don’t realize they're addicted until someone says or does something about their addiction. The video really explains social media algorithms very well. For example, he explains how you search for boxing videos and you keep watching and searching for more boxing videos. That tells the program of the social media app that you like to watch boxing videos. So as you scroll through all the videos on the platform, you will see a spike in more boxing matches throughout the platform you are using.

“Professional amateurs” is an article I found that talks about Asian American content creators and what their experiences like starting out on Youtube. They found out that “YouTube is an affordable space of democratic possibilities where minority content creators—even amateurs without expertise in professional entertainment—can produce engaging content.” A female content creator in the article who goes by Gambito says, “I think it’s important for you to see my heart in all of this, too. It’s not just entertainment. Happy Slip really comes from the heart.” Her saying this shows that content creation is more than just posting but also shows the true character of some people.

(“What Is Bollywood? Everything You Need to Know.”)
“Discovery Gets Into Streaming Content Creation in India” is another article but strays away from the streaming and video based platforms. The article shines a light on the experience with Bollywood and creating/streaming movies in India. Some celebrities in the Bollywood scene talked about the opportunities they got to showcase their passion for acting. Rana Duggubati an Indian film actor who stated, "It gives me immense pleasure to have an opportunity to live a day in the life of BSF Jawans. Having played the role of a soldier before, I can say that real life of a soldier is very different from reel life. They are our real heroes and what they do for this country is unimaginable." Content creation in the film industry has really made an impact on India in a positive way.

(“Column: Students Are Addicted to Their Cellphones, and They Need Our Help.”)
“The Teenagers so Addicted to Cell Phones They’re Going to Detox Centers” is a video I came across doing my research on the issue in my topic which is social media addiction focuses on South Korean teens. The video follows a 16-year-old girl Yoo Chae-rin who is spending 13 hours a day on her phone. The government of South Korea recognized this as a problem and made camps for teenagers who can’t put their phones down. Yoo Chae-rin’s father wanted to help his daughter with her addiction and sent her to the camp to at least bring down how much time she spends on her phone. During the camp, they had students do all sorts of activities to keep them off their phones. Yoo Chae-rin said “For friends who were forced to go because of their parents, I think the camp wasn’t that effective for them.” As you can see it’s mainly for the student to change and keep up the mindset of not being on their phone all the time.

(Marcus Taylor. Personal Photo. Discussion)
On November 9, students from SFIS discussed how content creation impacted their life. Whether they had experienced it or watched any sort of content. The meeting behind having a focus group was to gain the attention of how much content creation has impacted our lives.
(Marcus Taylor. Personal Photo. Presentation)
On March 1, I was given the chance to present to a 7th grade class here at SFIS what it means to dive into the world of content creation. The presentation was to inspire students to try content creation but also inform about becoming a content creator.
