Linoleum Prints

The subject of this piece of art work isa landscape drawing based off of a picture that I took of Mount Washington. I chose to create this specific work because i thought that after I adjusted the grayscale the contrasting colors would be really cool. For materials I used a pencil to draw out my design, a linoleum block to carve in to and carving tools to use on the linoleum.

I used a variety of techniques and methods including outlining and carving. I used outlining to draw the lines so I would know where I needed to carve. And I used carving to make the negative space. While creating this work, I paid close attention to the edges of what I was carving to make it look realistic. I wanted my artwork to look realistic and interesting. and I did that by working really hard on the piece and taking a lot of time.

To add interest to my composition I used contrast, pattern and movement. I did this by planning out where i wanted to carve and changing that to consistently make it better. I like the way the final product looks and I am proud of how hard I worked. However I struggled with the way the bottom looks. My work shows that I learned how to carve a linoleum block and how I problem solved.
