"LUV"

4" x 7.5"

December 6th, 2019

I wanted to do something show something in my work that wasn't just people with physical disabilities. The three hands on the work are letters in the sign language alphabet. They spell the word "LUV". Then I drew a line connecting the three hands and drew little stick figures on it. This relates to my life because I know someone who is def and communicates through sign language.

First I had to research the hand signs for each letter and then I sketched them out in pencil. After the pencil I went back over the lines with a fine point black sharpie and added the creases shown on everyone's hands. Then I added watercolor to do the different skin tones and also to do the background. After that I went back in with pens and added more color.

I wanted to do the word "LOVE" but after I sketched out the firsthand I didn't have enough space on the paper to do for so I changed it so that it would have three hands and still say "LUV". I think that I could've added shadows to the creases on the hand to show depth. I would add more people climbing up the hands or add objects in the background for them to climb up.
